Of bikes and computers

I went for a bike ride for the first time in years last night. My thighs were a little bit sore for a few minutes after, and right now my butt is sore from the seat, but all in all it went better than I'd hoped. Oh, I'm not going for a quad core right now. They're expensive, and most consumer software doesn't really take advantage of multiple processor cores yet anyway. A dual core chip should handle my needs and mild multitasking just fine, since my single core chip doesn't struggle too hard. I'm more interested in the AMD quad cores for the way they'll affect the prices of the stuff already on the market.

As for video card, I traded my old, replaced camera to Jess for her old PCI-E video card, so it won't cost me anything to start. I think that card's an nVidia 6800 GS, but I'm not 100% sure. I think I can spend about $600 and get roughly what I need, although I may also purchase a new hard drive or two. I'm thinking Intel Core 2 Duo 6420, 2 GB RAM, new motherboard that handles it all, and maybe the drives. I slotted about $250 for a new vid card originally, which brought my total up to about $912, so it's about $630 all told without. That was a rough and cautious estimate, though. I can probably do it for a bit less if I'm careful.

What do you think of NCIX?
