The
World eBook Fair is a collection of 1/3 million eBooks in PDF and audio books in MP3 that are normally available for an annual ~$9 membership fee for unlimited downloads. That isn't bad for the price of a single paperback novel, as long as you don't mind reading your books on a screen. I know there's still something preferable about a nice paper book to me, but eBooks surely do take up less physical space. The site's sponsors include
Project Gutenberg and Baen books, if you want an idea of where the books come from.
Between 4 July and 4 August, the collection is free for download without membership. That's a pretty decent free trial for seeing if you like what they have to offer. I'm presently in the process of downloading Baen science fiction books with cheesy, cheesy covers.
Anyway, I don't know if you guys are already aware of this site, but I thought I must have LJ friends who would appreciate some free eBooks.
And if the reading from a computer screen thing doesn't do it for you and you've got cash burning a hole in your pocket, I suppose you could always pick up something with an
E-ink display.
