I went out for a shopping trip, but thanks to one-way streets I ended up routed onto an interstate and landed two miles away in a bad part of town. The only way the city layout could have fucked me worse is if it routed me into an active volcano. AND DON'T THINK IT DIDN'T TRY.
So without more bs, here's what's on my kindle this week (besides
Rudyard Kipling and
spanking porn):
Suite for Violin and Clarinet by AwkwardAnnie - Someone recced this to me-
natsuko1978, was it you?- and I'd been saving it for a while. It's lovely! It's a bit fluffy, but I'd say it was sweet and light like a meringue, not heavy and sticky like a toffee pudding. Yum yum. Lots of musical details and a bit of romance. John/Sherlock
No Dictionary Sufficient in This Land of Men by v_angelique - John/Sherlock, NC17 in parts. Sherlock is intersex and John is a trans man. I have to say up front that I am not an expert, nor do I have personal experience of trans issues, so your mileage may vary. But I found this to be an excellent fic that explored some transphobia and body image issues in a good way. I also highly recommend the prequel, which is about Harry. It's interesting to read this fic and see what Harry is like, and then read the prequel and see how she got that way.
One of Maple, One of Palm by nox_candida - When Sherlock is 13, his father gives him a puzzle. He spends 20 years trying to solve it. This is a fic about Sherlock's backstory. It's exquisitely well-crafted, and I find it fascinating that most of the insight into Sherlock's relationship with his father (and his father's personality) comes from Sherlock's interaction with the puzzle, rather than relating conversations and so forth with his father. It's a cool narrative technique, and I enjoyed this story a lot.
Velociraptor caenaculi by Kryptaria - In which John is a were velociraptor. (It's actually a series now, but that's the first story.) If you need to know anything more than that before clicking that link, there is something wrong with you.
