So yesterday was my first day of work at Teaopia, and it was ballistic. The manager had to leave an hour early because her mom called her and said it was urgent, and of course it was in that hour that everyone and their mother wanted tea. Like, what the fuck, people? I had trouble keeping up, for sure, so hopefully I'll get the hang of things more as time goes on.
I am getting full time hours, though, which is pretty exciting. This means I won't have to beg Skiis and Biikes for more hours (although it looks like Kate was still trying to give them to me, which was super sweet of her) or find a second job for the summer. This also means I will have to strive to get the hang of it quickly, as full-timers are often more relied-upon and have higher expectations. Fortunately, lots of hours will give me lots of learning time.
I think I'm also going to make it my mission over the summer and coming months to try each one of their tea flavours - definitely hot and maybe even iced as well. I generally prefer hot tea to cold - something about the flavour seems off when it's iced; maybe it gets more watered down, I don't know. But in any case, there's a whole wall of flavour there, and listening to the manager tell me all about how much she loved them and which ones she didn't like was really fun; I would like to be that informed and informative. I want to be able to utter sentences like "Maybe it's just me, but I definitely prefer a Chinese green to a Japanese green" and know what that even means.
To sum up: I'm really looking forward to working there this summer, and all the tea I'll be drinking! :)
peace out
