“The Whisperers killed our people to make a point,” Siddiq says to the crowd gathered to hear. “They let me live as … a messenger. So here’s my message.”
They wait … and he changes his mind at the last instant, and says very quietly, “All of them.”
His audience looks back blankly. He repeats: “All of them.
“No compromises.
“No quarter.
“No exceptions.
“No mercy.
“All of them.
“Every. Last. One.”
Something passes through the crowd, some murmur or sigh of understanding. Shoulders set, expressions firm, and the words come back, low and steady, from hundreds of voices: “All of them.”
