ok, obligatory SWIII experience.
I decided to drive to the theatre two hours early. Yes, I was a little concerned that perhaps I was getting there too soon and I'd be forced to sit and wait for something good to happen, but hey.. better than the alternative.
As I'm driving to the theatre (Oh, I chose a large multiplex that I never go to, in the hopes that there would be bigger crowds) I started to worry. "What if nothing happens? What if it's just like every other movie. What if no one brings a lightsaber?!!"
Well I get there and holy mother of pearl.. it was a madhouse! TV crews, radio stations, hundreds and hundreds of people standing around. storm troopers, jedi, and a gaggle of women with painted faces holding signs that said "Trek rules". Lame-asses thought they were cute.
The multiplex put SW on 12 screens! TWELVE.. and ALL sold out. That's 3500 people. We got in and got our seats. Not great, but not horrible, and watched as people dueled in the aisles and a local fan club held trivia contests and gave away prizes. I caught a car air freshener!
I have to say it was everything I could have hoped for and more. The lights dimmed and 400 nerds blew a wad in their pants to the tune of the Fox fanfare.
The movie delivered. Everyone seemed very pleased walking out. Then imagine 3500 people trying to leave a parking lot at the same time. Anywho.. I'm happy.
