This one woman at work keeps a lending library of books on CD in an empty desk drawer. I have recently gotten back in the groove of consuming books this way, since these days, by the time I get to pick up a book I usually get drowsy within a few pages. Anyway, here are a few of the good ones I've "read" recently. Keep in mind, her selection tends toward chick lit and airport paperbacks so it's a probably a little outside my usual fare.
Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan
My brother and I listened to this one when we were commuting together. Very fun. Appeal to all.
Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by Helen Fielding
This one was great (despite the main character being a litte annoying in that pathetic bridgit jones way). I didn't know it was going to have a CIA spin - total bonus.
Bergdorf Blondes: A Novel by Plum Sykes
Total fluff but all the descriptions of designer outfits really won me over. Unfortunately, it made me want to go shopping all the time.
The Year of Pleasures: A Novel by Elizabeth Berg
This one was really charming, read like a memoir though it's fiction. The most soothing and poetic of the bunch.
Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen by Julie Powell
Good for foodies, like The Year of Pleasures and Marley & Me, it's easy to get into being that it's written in the first person.
The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks
Predictably Nicholas Sparks: gentle romantic hero, women who needs saving, North Carolina setting. Not one of his best - slightly annoying, actually, but fits the genre.
Every Breath You Take by Judith Mcnaught
In a similar vein as the Nicholas Sparks but more explicitly erotic! LOL Haven't finished this one yet, looking forward to getting onto the mystery and intrigue.
