OK so just an quick addition in response to my cell bio lab with the fantastic French prof. Class was hilarious! Luckily I wasn't the only one laughing this time. During class today we got lab partners (dun dun DUN!)I was kinda torn in who I wanted to work with. I'm coming to realize that Will is kinda unbalanced and I knew I would have a hard time working with him (he would take over everything, that's just the kind of person he is). So, I had to look around for other partners. There is this other guy, kinda shy, kinda cute, you know the type *grin* so we were down to like half the class unpartnered and he leans over and asks if I want to be his partner (HELL YES!) So all of a sudden I am Dan's partner. He also TAs the same lab as I do so we have that in common but other than that I had no idea who he was. In lab, we found that we have very similar styles of humor and we couldn't stop laughing. It was refreshing and I was *GASP* not awkward!
Side story: ok so the prof told us to break our pipettes to bypass a piece of cotton that comes in them. He even broke one for us (scary). So I grab the pipettes for Dan and I (from the same drawer as the prof). We get to the pipette breaking part and I had Dan do it. No way in hell was I going to try to break glass with my hands. Both of us were nervous. Dan broke it (more like shattered it) and just looks at me. All I could do was ask "Is there blood?" luckily no... but we both broke out laughing. We finish up, and I ask the prof where to discard of glass. In his thick french accent he asks "glass? Zer was no glass in dis lab." Then he sees our broken pipette and cracks up. He was surprised we had the balls to break glass with bare hands. Luckily the prof likes us because we both respond to his jokes, so we weren't immediately labels as idiots but it was darn close.
Hooray for lab partners that make me feel funny, and smart and not awkward, and who do an equal amount of the work. And for lab partners who are also only doing this program because they weren't accepted to med school and plan to reapply after this (sound familiar? good.)

interesting.... so, he told you to break the pipettes, but then laughed at you when you actually did it? i'm not sure i could follow the story entirely, but i laughed out loud when i got to the part where you said "is there blood?" hilarious.

well, yay for getting a good lab partner - that's something i didn't love about the sciences, because if you have to work with someone all semester or all year long, it had better be a good partnership! and i'm glad that you continue to feel validated about your decision to do this program as a step along the way to med school.
