My, an update not from my phone, and not in too bad a mood, either!
You are lucky today :P
There's a slight problem with my plans for the day - I was planning to try and do Holly's meet thing.
Except I found out afterwards that someone had changed the work rota, putting me on duty on saturday, rather than sunday as it was before, untill 2pm. And myself and my Chloe have to hit town to make sure there's money in her bank to pay rent with.
At least if I do go down to london, though, it may well be one of my first excursions without Chloe tagging along - she all-nighted again, silly lass, and will probably need to sleep :P
There's also a less cruel side to that, too, being that accounts are running a little tight at the moment. Whilst I have some level of income, Chloe does not.
Starting playing "Star Wars: Knights of the old republic" last night, after far too much hassle trying to install it.
Whilst Chloe's system really doesn't like it, requiring the game to be restarted regularly, mine runs quite smoothly indeed. Infact, chloe's probably a little jealous as she has to have the lowest possible graphics settings, wereas I'm running in 1024x768 with best quality textures.
Visually the game's very shiny indeed - what else would you expect from lucasarts? There's even a "flourish weapon" key so that you can spin your lightsabre in a cool and impressive way. Combat itself seems to have been magically coreographed, with each one being a true work of art. It really is a pleasure to watch. It also makes good use of the fact that we are in the age of the powerful home PC - in that when it uses pre-rendered footage, it's normally because they want to be very, very impressive indeed! (or just add "spooky dream haze"...)
Mechanically, it's like NWN for the FPS generation. The big change is that poison reduces health. Grenades are absolutely lovely, too. You really can begin to simply forget the rolls behind what is going on. There is a little cludginess in the control system, however. The mini-games are amusing diversions, too.
The plot is your usual star wars fare. Set a thousand years before the great republic of the films, you are in the republic army, your ship gets shot down, the sith are out to get you. More than that will spoil the plot, but I will say that you don't get to start as a Jedi....
The gameplay overall is very addictive. It's NWN style quests, except they've learnt exactly what players did enjoy and ran with that - only moreso. The party and quick travel systems are nice, too.
All in all, I approve!
