So fun; lots of laughs and stories - kempo practice

Nov 02, 2006 04:32

Today's Kempo practice was exceptionally fun. And...DIFFerent. But to summarize, the main points were (not in any order):

- learned a new kick (with shins)
- HAD to kick my sensei today (multiple times) in the stomach (without him wearing a dou/chest protector) > AAAAAAAHHHH!! I DUN WANNA! STOP MAKING ME!!!! DAMMIT! *kick*

- sensei got angry the second time in two classes & yelled (at the same kids, no less. And this is the guy we all said was "nice and never got angry or yelled at anyone." As the class gets bigger, I think he might also get more gray hair....)

- confirmed my belief that Muhmuud is quite traditional (I've always felt he babied and was extremely careful of females, but today we needed to clasp hands to keep balance, and he asked not to since it made him uncomfortable; this is the first time he's voiced it to anyone, as far as I know, prev. he just tried to avoid as much as he could, even with other female partners)
- got annoyed at Muhmuud for how he always wants to go quicker or whatever when he DOESN'T GET THE TECHNIQUE YET.

- sensei talked to the "older" (as in time, not age) brown belts and Paul (black belt) after class today about how if the new kids decide to stay officially, then he's thinking of turning our branch into an actual SCHOOL. As in, there will be separation of class after basics, and an older student will lead the kids, etc. He wanted our opinion about it (yea!) and also for us to start bringing ideas, suggestions, etc to make children's learning more fun, effective, etc. (yea!)
- sensei admitted to kids, he takes the "traditional japanese man" approach. ie. strict (but also espec. so in our martial arts situation). But he told us kids need different types of people, so we're welcome to take up any other personality. haha.

- sensei told us about his naughty 10-year old self, how he was always up against university students, and essentially came up with a way to gain the upper hand by attacking the first available shin, then the opponent would switch stance, and he'd attack the new shin; often he'd give them a forward roundhouse kick to the head(as a fault, bringing them down to his level, too) and then give them a backwards roundhouse to the head. So apparently he made lots of older teens and adults cry, since his methods got them low to his level "so he could reach" hahaha~! (prev. I'd heard the other side too, about how he was always getting bloody noses and cutting his lips because of his braces. It was when he was warning me about my own. Lol.)

Ah, I love this class....
