and i know for a fact that i'm not the only one to make this comparison.
so first, let's have a look at our protagonists.
Asbel Lhant, much like
Suzaku Kururugi, is the son of a man in power. He has a certain dislike for authority and regularly disobeys his father. He wants to grow up to be a knight, but he's really just a troublemaker. He ends up running away after a traumatic event, which, in a roundabout way, results in the inevitable death of his father.
Richard is pretty much a not-so-spoiled prince who is in terrible manfatuation with Asbel Asbel's childhood friend. Asbel was pretty much his only friend ever, so Richard has a crush on him come on guys it's so fucking obvious deep respect and admiration for him, even after they finally grow up. Oh, and they were separated for a while before then. Seven years to be exact.
Please tell me you are seeing SOME kind of parallel here so far.
Anyway, as with many series teeming with hoyay, we have a third wheel of the female variety. Her name is
Sophie, and she is
a mysterious girl with mysterious powers and a mysterious sort of amnesia. Hers is not on the same level of assholery as CC's. In fact, Sophie is actually a very sweet girl. And she's also fucking adorable.
...Okay, so maybe I'm kind of stretching the associations a bit here.
But I guess Sophie's obsession with kanitama is something like CC's love for pizza, at least. Come on, work with me here!
Anyway, the art style itself also draws several parallels. For one thing, everyone has obscenely long legs. Additionally,
Richard's face in a certain
cutscene looks awfully familiar! Now where have I seen that face before...?
...Oh. Right. And of course we all know about Richard's "geass" in his left eye. Or, uh...well, if you don't, then I'm kind of amazed, seeing as how it's apparent from the moment you run into him as an adult!
The hoyay level is also similarly high in both titles but that's obvious enough that it should go without saying.
Anyway, I'm honestly not far enough into Graces that I should be able to properly judge this kind of thing. But really, come ON. It's so OBVIOUS. Asbel is Suzaku enough to be CRIMINAL.
