The Mountains

Outside of the city, a winding road leads to where a line of mountains rises up out of the earth. Following the road takes you on half a day's hike up the slopes, the path never becoming too treacherous, always wide enough for two cars. Eventually the road curves around and into a plateau situated between three of the points, with a softly sloping ridge on the far side, which, when climbed, gives a lovely view of the city of Promenade.

Tucked closer to the mountainside stands a small trio of buildings. A house, one outbuilding, and a small but sturdy greenhouse. The land around them is lined in fencing, within which a flock of sheep mill about, and the clucking gossip of happy chickens can be heard from a large coop over the other side. There's a rather good-natured nanny goat tied in the yard, too.

The house is small, two storeys, with the ground floor containing a living area, kitchen, and bathroom, and the second floor containing two bedrooms. It's simply decorated, wooden floors and white-washed timber cladding on the walls and ceilings. The furniture is rather sparse and a complete mishmash, clearly borrowed or collected together over time. The only real decorations are homemade crafts scattered around. The sheer number of blankets and cushions around softens the rather cold feeling of the place, and the building has obviously had a lot of love and care put into it, despite its sparse furnishings.
