Liberality - wc 817

Taemin remained awake that night, staring at the broad expanse of Minho’s shoulders. The demon had come back just an hour ago while Taemin had been getting ready for bed. Taemin had opened his mouth to say something...

Only to quickly shut it when he saw Minho’s dark face.

Something was wrong.

Taemin was scared. He’d never seen Minho like this before, had never felt such a wave of emotion from the demon. Minho had always been gentle with him, handling him with a sweet smile and a soft look in his eyes. The cold, hard light that had been in those brown orbs earlier frightened him.

He bit his bottom lip guiltily, wondering if his rejection was what caused this drastic change. Unconsciously, his hand slowly lifted until it hovered directly behind Minho. He hadn’t thought that it would make Minho this angry at him.

“You understand why I did that, right?” Taemin whispered, not expecting an answer. What he got, however, was more horrifying than that.

Minho turned around on the bed, gazing at the shocked Taemin with a carefully blank expression. The room become silent and still as they stared at each other. Outside, Taemin could hear the clinking of dishes, probably Jaejoong still eating his heart out while his hyung was away. Taemin almost didn’t dare to breathe.

Something hovered in his peripheral vision, and he could barely make out a hand (Minho’s hand) slowly coming toward him. If he had been barely breathing before, he definitely wasn’t breathing now.

The first touch from Minho’s surprisingly soft hand made his eyes flutter. The gentle, tender touch was back, though Minho still made sure his face was blank of any emotions. Weakly, Taemin lifted his own hand under that scrutinizing gaze, laying his palm on the hand that cupped his cheek.

“I don’t want to become some plaything, Minho,” he said, allowing himself to voice his fears. His pride really was taking a big blow today. “I don’t want to be something you use and throw away.”

“Do you really think I would do that to you?” The words came out startlingly fast from the seemingly calm demon that Taemin almost flinched. Thankfully he didn’t - he wasn’t sure if that would cause Minho to pull away from him or not.

“I...don’t know,” Taemin admitted slightly, “I think that’s what bothers me the most. I don’t know how...demons...think, especially about humans and liking or loving someone.”

Minho went quiet again at that before pulling his hand from Taemin’s grasp. Taemin wondered if he had once again overstepped his boundaries until he saw that Minho’s hand wasn’t going away - it went to trace and touch not only his cheek, but the rest of his features. And when Taemin closed his eyes, he had never felt so vulnerable under someone else’s eyes. It was a daunting but awing feeling.

“I’ll admit,” Minho finally said, “I fight thought of this as something of a game, not to be taken seriously. But the longer we stayed on earth and here with you, I learned things I never knew - I felt things I never knew. When you rejected my advances earlier today, it made me think. Down in Hell, demons laughed all the time at other demons who had the misfortune to fall in love with a human. We did it for years, possibly centuries. It’s hard to get out of that thought process. But...if you’re here with me, I think I might be able to manage.”

Taemin opened his eyes to stare back at Minho. His eyes searched the demon’s, wondering if his heart was taking this the wrong way. Maybe he shouldn’t get too excited about this just yet.

“I’m afraid you’ll have to put that in simpler terms,” he whispered. “Are you saying...?”

“It looks like I’ve fallen for a human after all,” Minho remarked, a smile finally lighting up his face. Taemin’s heart ached at the sight - though it had only been gone for a few hours, he had really missed it. Taemin bit the insides of his cheeks to stop his smile from getting too big as well.

“Can I believe you?” Taemin asked, but he knew it was futile. He already believed Minho. Unconsciously, he moved closer to allow his eyes better judgement of Minho’s expressions. He was gifted with the most warm, loving twist to Minho’s facial structure he’d ever seen before. It made his heart stop for a moment just looking at it.

“Will you let yourself believe in me?”

The kiss they shared that night called to Taemin in ways nothing ever had before. And when they went to sleep, safe in each others arms, he dreamed of a future that was bright as it was dark, the two shades at rest with each other. He slept with a smile on his face.

Greed - wc 596

Jaejoong knew, right from the moment Yunho walked into the room, that he would be the one to go crazy that night (if he wasn’t already, that was). Though Yunho came back with his clothes and hair in place as it had been when he left, the man stunk of woman’s perfume.

Jaejoong willed himself not to show how much he was fuming, observing the man coolly. The icy spoon was put into his tongue and he pushed the now empty-carton of ice cream away without glancing from Yunho’s eyes.

“I ate all the food that was in that box,” he remarked blandly, twirling the spoon around in the air. He pointed to the refrigerator. Yunho’s jaw dropping almost made him smile, but his mood was too down for anything else other than getting up to walk to the bedroom. He paused.

“Also, go shower before you go to bed. That other human’s disgusting stench is all over you and I don’t want to sleep next to that.”

He was surprised when a hand seized his wrist. Startled, he jerked his hand back but he was even more shocked when he couldn’t or, rather, didn’t use his demonic strength to shake off the tall man.

“Is there a reason you’re angry right now?” Yunho breathed. Jaejoong couldn’t meet his intense eyes this time, more interested looking at the walls.

“I’m surprised you can tell at all,” Jaejoong murmured dryly. He was tugged into a loose embrace. Frozen, he did nothing to stop Yunho’s arms from curling around him. Though the human stunk, now that he was closer he could smell Yunho under all the ugly human scent. That and the warmth radiating from underneath his human’s coat made him want to curl up around Yunho and never move.

“Living with you has taught me to never question why you’re putting up a hissy fit,” Yunho chuckled, and Jaejoong could hear the distant rumble in the human’s chest. “Though, since I just got back, I do think I have the right to know why you’re angry with me since I’ve been gone the whole day.”

“Hmph,” Jaejoong muttered under his breath, but he could feel his angry emotions melting quickly. “You deserve nothing, you stupid pest.”

“Ah, there my Jaejoong is,” Yunho laughed again. “Always quick with the irritation and never rational with his words.”

“Your Jaejoong?” Jaejoong ignored his heart skipping a beat at those words.

“My date taught me something today,” Yunho said, more cheerfully than Jaejoong would’ve liked. A greedy thought came to mind - Yunho wasn’t allowed to be that happy unless Jaejoong (and maybe his brother) was being mentioned.

“I’d rather not talk about your stupid date,” Jaejoong said distastefully, finally giving in and resting his head onto Yunho’s collar bone. His good mood went slightly down with the new bane of his existence being mentioned.

“It taught me that I’m rather happy with you. I don’t think I’ll be able to look at a potential partner again without comparing them to you,” Yunho said, ignoring Jaejoong’s grumbling. Jaejoong stilled, not sure if he was hearing correctly. Maybe his super hearing was screwing up?

“Are you saying that...you have fond feelings of me?”

“I wonder how you’ve never caught it before,” Yunho said, sounding amused. “I thought you were far more superior at everything than humans.” Still, Jaejoong refused to be baited.

“You do realize what you’re saying right?” he whispered, hoping, hoping, hoping Yunho confirmed this.

“Of course I do, silly.”

“I don’t share well.”

“I’m looking forward to it.”
