Prologue (Part One)
Please Give a Kiss to His Hands

His thumbs traced the curve of his lover’s eyes gently, skin smooth and slightly cold to his touch. The world was quiet as they stared at each other, the affectionate glimmer of his lover’s eyes pulling a gentle smile onto the man’s lips. Even now, it was hard for him to wrap his mind around the fact that he was with someone so perfect.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered, and the lift of his lover’s lips caused him to inhale deeply, awed into silence. Cupping the porcelain cheeks in front of him, he slowly leaned down to press a soft kiss to the pliant lips in front of him. Pulling away a second later, his smile slowly grew, and an “I love you,” bubbled past his lips before he could stop himself, causing a small blush to rise up to his cheeks. His lover laughed at his plight, eyes coming to life as they twinkled.

“You’re so cheesy,” Cinderella said, a warm quirk of his lips exposing flawless teeth. “But I love you too.”

But as quickly as the smile had come, it disappeared, leaving Landlord at a loss. Was something wrong? His lover stared at him uncomfortably, teeth worrying his bottom lip.

“Are you alright? Is something…wrong?” Landlord asked, looking around. Cinderella had an uncanny sense of the environment around them and could seemingly detect others’ presences. With their forbidden love, his ability was put to use more than Landlord found comfortable - but it was either that, or they get caught. He couldn’t allow that at the risk of his lover’s life. He couldn’t.

A spark of fear echoed in his heart as he continued to watch the trees near them.

“Ah, no,” Cinderella corrected hurriedly, a short shake of his head dispelling the heavy feeling in the pit of Landlord’s stomach. “I just have something to tell you.”

Fear now giving way to curiosity, Landlord cocked his head, waiting for when Cinderella was ready. The words didn’t cause doubt - he knew Cinderella loved him and that the feeling was mutual. However, Cinderella must have something serious to say, or he would have said it already. It wasn’t like his lover to be so hesitant.

“Promise to listen to everything I have to say before making conclusions?” Cinderella asked, lightly drawn lines of worry ruining the smooth curves of the otherwise flawless face.

“Just tell me,” Landlord said, frowning as he watched Cinderella gaze down at the earth. Seeing him so uncertain made him almost nervous to know what was bothering the other man so much to lose such a characteristic.

“Promise first,” demanded Cinderella in return, almost looking angry. Landlord was surprised by the determination that held strong within Cinderella’s voice. Apprehensive about where this was all going, all he could do was swallow.

“I promise,” he said warily, wondering what he was getting himself into. He found himself looking into Cinderella’s eyes, the gentle light he was used to seeing gone only to be replaced with an intense emotion Landlord couldn’t put his finger to. It was an emotion impossible to look away from, and he found himself ensnared.

The silence that came with his promise was deafening. The pounding of his heart started to overwhelm him, the questions running through his mind overflowing.

Finally, Cinderella broke the silence by sighing, releasing Landlord from his hypnotic gaze to close his eyes briefly, features pinched. He looked tired all of a sudden and Landlord had the urge to go over and wrap the other man within his arms, except he found himself rooted to the ground, unable to move.

“Remember, you promised,” Cinderella said, eyes opening to search Landlord’s. There was a quiet desperation in his gaze now, and Landlord shook off his stupor at the sight of it, taking in a deep breath to steel himself for the worst.

At first, Landlord didn’t realize something had changed. The air was the same - breathable, clear and sharp in his lungs. The trees were the same - tall, majestic, with the leaves changing colors to show fall setting in. The sounds were the same - wind whistling lightly through the trees, birds chirping and the distant sound of a river running. But suddenly, he could feel it - something wasn’t matching.

And that was when he saw it.

He saw Cinderella’s glowing, neon-green eyes and sharp fangs which pressed insistently against his bottom lip.

Landlord stared at the sight before him dumbly, mouth opening and closing, probably looking much like a gaping fish out from water. He couldn’t help it though. Blinking in shock, he brought a hand up, hand pausing in the air when Cinderella flinched away before recovering. Seeing his lover like that brought him a little out of his daze, eyes searching Cinderella’s only to see Cinderella - not some creature or monster, but his lover.

Smiling at that thought, he let his finger pads skim across the parts of Cinderella’s exposed fangs, smile growing when he saw Cinderella’s eyelids flutter at the feeling and at his subtle acceptance.

They would make it through this...somehow.
