My idea is...I'm supposed to enjoy Christmas, right? So why make it a yearly ball of tension that's fifty-three times more frustrating than it needs to be?
Plus, Christmas is just a day, and days don't have any more innate meaning than what we put into them. I don't see winter as being any more innately magical than any other time of the year. And since we celebrate Christmas on what used to be December 15 anyway, why tie it down to that time of year? Comparatively few people are using May Day; why not schedule Christmas for then? If America is truly God's chosen country, why not co-schedule Christmas with Independence Day?
I see Christmas as one more rest stop on my way to where I really want to be...which is January 2nd. That gives me a good month before the Valentines Day ads begin running and I start getting ready to stick my head in the oven again.
