The gun clicked satisfying in her hand. The cool metal soothed her skin and the heavy weight calmed her. She hefted the rifle, peering through the scope, the target easily found. Noise buzzed in her earpiece; she filtered most of it, until the order came. The press of the trigger was comforting, and the recoil was familiar. It felt like coming home.
She never watched the blood after.
