a) I love swings! Your mister husband really IS a keeper!

b) I love cilantro! The only trouble with cilantro is that it all seems to be ready at one time, and I don't know how to get around that. I guess one might be able to freeze some? Once cilantro goes to seed, it's coriander, and you can dry that, to grind up later for use. I guess you plant your cilantro in waves--some now, some later.

c) your wheelbarrow will grow and look fine! I have a client who puts caladiums in her old wheelbarrows (she's got 2) along with some tuberous begonias, and they look fine. You'll find that the plants will take off before you know it.

d) The red leafed shrub in a barberry. They are rat-bastards! They're considered invasive (at least I believe so), as they'll make a little red berry, and then you have them places you don't want. I would recommend getting rid of it: cutting it back and digging or pulling out the stump (should be do-able). I do not like barberries one bit, because, as you noted--the thorns. Maybe because of your growing zone, there are limited choices. I'd plant a ninebark bush instead! I think there's a red-leafed choke cherry (that you could kept trimmed to size), but because of bears maybe you wouldn't want one close to the house. I would not recommend a burning bush, because they're invasive too. The other shrub is a type of spirea (there are various varieties). After it blooms, cut it back, probably by a third.

e). I love dahlias, too! I've never seen a lime green one-do you know what it's called? Starting dahlia tubers in pots is the way to go--they don't like cold soil (in fact, will rot if it's too cold). They'll really take off too.

Love the pictures!

with the cilantro I was planning on doing two waves in spring and two in the fall (I think that's what i'm planning). with any extra, i'm probably going to freeze half and dry half and see what works out the best. cilantro is SO EXPENSIVE here (like 3-4x the price from when we were in CA) and it's not that great, so having fresh is going to really be a joy. i'm hopeful that it will grow in the poly tunnel this winter so we can have it all year long. (greenhouse is pushed to next year, probably. too many dollars.)

thank you so much for the info on the bastard bush! we're doing so much clearing of the property that these bushes may make it until winter, but i'll look up the NON-BEAR bushes you mentioned! I want flowers and color and explosive happy. :)

so I was wrong, they're not dahlias. they're zinnias. lol last two letters are the same, no wonder i'm confused. they are queen anne greens and hopefully i'll get some sprouted. there was a mishap with my little growing area, so I may have to start more. ugh. and that's GREAT to know about the dahlias - I am limited on posts and containers right now (most of my big ones got left behind in the move, which is heartbreaking but whatcha gonna do?), so i'll switch out my thinking so that's where my dahlias go. :)

I may not be good with tubers/bulbs, though. :( I planted crocus and daffs in the fall, but no flowers. I got green stuff that came out, though - so they're not totally dead. ;)

again, thank you for the green thumb input. I LOVE WHEN YOU GARDEN FOLK TALK GARDEN JUNK! makes me happy. :)

your picture is of a dahlia tho! #JustSaying

Rabbits will eat down crocus flowers (and leaves) it's a drag! Is the foilage still up for the daffs and crocus? if so let me see the leaves. Don't worry--you really may have planted them too late and they are just hanging in there...next year could be their year!!
