Weekly Roundup

Thought for the Day: No matter how numb you may think you are, there’s still a little bit of feeling left.

What notable things have happened in the past week or so that are worth mentioning? We had a nice long weekend thanks to President’s day, but much of mine was consumed with writing a paper about Cartesian Dualism and his Argument via Divisibility. It was about as much fun as it sounds. I did get that haircut I mentioned in my last entry, lookin’ sharp. Tommy was in the shop. Exciting news, I know. I met with my law school advisor for the first time, he had some very constructive things to say.

I also auditioned and got a gig. I will be playing on March 23rd, at the Starbucks on West 4th, so save the date. I’ve been especially busy with school and Student Government this year so I haven’t really had much time at all to go out and perform my songs. It would really mean a lot to me if my friends could come out to see me play, so hopefully I will see you there.

Trisha, Lauren, and Chloe had a Chinese New Year/Mardi Gras party on Saturday, and it was a great deal of fun. I think my favorite part was that a group of us were standing in a circle between the kitchen and the patio, and we made anyone who passed through the circle dance. Quite a bit of fun. Other than that, it was just hanging out and shooting the breeze with people. Good time.

Sundays are so much more dull without the glory that is professional football. I again spent most of the day working on that bloody paper. We had our last real RALI; next week we just show our significant learning project. It was about diversity, and some of the activities were pretty interesting. It’s always intriguing to see where people fall ideologically, a lot of people can really surprise you. I try to make it a point not to spend too much time talking about television, but I have to mention that this past week’s episode of The Simpsons entitled, “Springfield Up” was truly hilarious, and I would say generally on par with episodes in the glory years. Watch it if you get the chance. What’s more, they showed the trailer for The Simpsons Movie (!!!). I really think my head might explode from overwhelming excitement before July 27th rolls around. I intend to be the very first one in line. This will be my Woodstock. Does that make me a nerd? Probably, but at this point I don’t care.

Abbie and I talked on the phone for a very long time Sunday night. Monday was President’s day and I pretty much did nothing besides work on that paper. I bummed around a bit, but really, nothing exciting or noteworthy happened. Tuesday was getting back into the swing of things. I can’t express how tired I was when getting through my first class in the morning. We more or less closed the book on Spinoza for the moment. In National Security we discussed some expansive theories on NatSec, nothing too wild. Office hours were uneventful by and large, except that we had to crawl through the “tunnel of oppression” that ResEd is putting on in Third North to get to the IRHC office. During the IRHC meeting that night, the General Assembly voted to give Frats/Sororities another penthouse in Lafayette. I was 100% against it. We already experienced something of a housing crunch last year, and this year we’re losing Cliff Street and designating Broome Street for the new residential college. I genuinely think the last thing we needed to do was take away more spaces from regular residents entering lottery, and quite frankly, I’m somewhat disappointed in the GA for voting the way they did. I suppose what’s done is done.

Today was more business as usual. I put the finishing touches on and turned in the paper. My Belief Truth & Knowledge class was cancelled so I had an unexpected surplus of time. I caught up on a little bit of reading. In American Constitution, I took notes on my laptop for the first time ever. I have to say, it was much faster and since the class is pretty word-heavy I don’t have the concern for drawing diagrams and whatnot. I think I may stick with it. We discussed Judicial standing, the doctrine of political questions, and similar topics. James D. and I IMed each other despite the fact that we were sitting right next to each other, hah. Tonight I hung out with Heep and watched the show Jericho. Most of the acting in the show was pretty crappy, but one guy named Lennie James did a very excellent job. I might keep up with the show, but they did little to keep me interested, and as I mentioned, the acting was pretty nausea inducing.

And that’s pretty much. You’d think I’d have more exciting stuff to report after a week’s worth of events, but yet here we are. Some weeks are just slower than others. Hope everyone had a good holiday.
