important notes concerning boxtops event

Aug 13, 2010 17:31

Via the boxtops trade-in event, Saya has regained her full monster form. Her body is slimy, sprouts tentacles, and reeks a positively sickening stench, like piles of fish guts left to rot. She makes a wet, squishy sound when slithering on the ground and leaves a trail of slime in her wake. Her speech is distorted and come out as gurgles and screeches with strange inflections. (Imagine the static on a radio combined with the white noise of the TV.) It's understandable, but harsh on the ears.

By canon standards, the sight of Saya can typically alone make a human go insane. Given the fact Mayfield residents have probably seen enough bizarre things to last them a lifetime, we can downgrade that to the sight of Saya can typically alone scare the wits out of a human.

Although her monster form has never been fully show in the novel, she probably resembles something among the lines of...

(Probably.)

In exchange, Saya has lost all her memories of Mayfield and its inhabitants, as well as most of them memories she has of her stay on earth back home. Without any memories of Fuminori's love or even the teachings of Ougai, Saya has basically degenerated into a soulless monster, a toddler with deadly powers, completely and utterly innocent without any motive to harm yet without morals or ethics either. It does not have a "soul" in the sense that it doesn't have a personality or self-awareness. At the moment, Saya doesn't even identify with a gender, but has gotten to the point where it understands "Saya" is what Ougai calls it.

Saya understands speech and will show fragments of familiarity with human behaviors, such as a grasp of humor. Nevertheless, it lacks the ability to feel more complex emotions such as sadness (from loss) as it's concept of "relationship" doesn't transcend outside of "interaction". To Saya, family, friends, strangers are all environmental stimuli.

If your character happens to encounter Saya in her current state, several outcomes may occur.
  • It will attempt to kill you, and then possibly eat you or dissect you afterward.
  • It may just chase you around, perhaps if you're looking particularly scared.
  • If you're particularly eloquent or simply do not show fear (or you're a mad scientist like Ougai), she may want to listen to what you have to say. You may just end up gaining a tentacle monster as a pet for night!
  • Saya will think you're playing a game if you try to kill it... unless you manage to harm it, in which it will react the same way any other animal instinctively reacts to pain.
I'm going to go all out with Saya on this event, so please don't comment unless you're 100% okay with your character dying/mentally scarred/long-lasting CR effects for those who know the little tentacle monster.

Comment here for questions, permissions and what you would or would not like to happen to your character.

Oh and one last note...

SAYA IS PROBABLY NOT RECOGNIZABLE TO YOUR CHARACTERS.

Because

y'know

cthulhu and all.

Have fun getting around that minor roadblock!
