YOU PEOPLE WRITE TOO MUCH (lol joking). I had to go back 160 entries to catch up what I missed. And I haven't even checked up on the PCG or LHT.
Needless to say, I'm back from the UP, the Land of Needlessly Large Trucks with Lots of "Support Our Troops" Ribbons. It was pretty fun.
Summary: I got to drive going up, and coming back. Tailgaters can go jump in a ditch or something, because there were several times when I got in the left lane to pass a truck that people would come speeding up behind me while I was going 80 mph, and then pass me on the right or just try to hump my bumper. EXCUSE ME FOR NOT GOING 15 MPH OVER THE SPEED LIMIT.
The cabin we stayed in was approximately 40 years out of date, and the water smelled like urine and rust. But all the others were updated. The view was spectacular, and last night we stayed up to watch the Perseids. My parents kept pronouncing "Cassiopeia" "cass-ee-OH-pee-uh", so I took to correcting them with "cass-ee-oh-PAY-uh" every time they said it. Astronomy nerdiness FTW.
My mom wanted to go to Grand Marais, and everyone was okay with that until she told us that it was a two hour drive just to get there. So we just stayed at the cabin. The weather was SUPERAWESOME. The next day we went to Whitefish Point, off of which over 300 lakers have wrecked. YAY SHIPLORE. We went on the beach and OMG it was so windy that the sand that was kicked up stung our knees. Good thing I was wearing my knee high socks. Then we went to another beach where I went wading, and it was just as windy as the other one. The waves were HUGE (for a lake, anyway) and ended up soaking my skirt. So when we got back to the cabin I got to blow dry it.
We went to a small zoo near St. Ignace this morning and it was adorable. They had baby pot-bellied pigs who were SO CUTE, and they had LLAMAS. There was a "baby" (she was about as tall as I was) there who came up to the fence next to the others and she was soooo cuuute. X3 There were also otters, reindeer, lemurs, a black bear, wolves, coyotes, a raccoon, a skunk, a donkey and a bison. :D
Have you ever heard the sort of noise a ring-tailed lemur makes? I have. It sounds like worn-out, wet car brakes applied too hard with the parking brake on. Not pleasant. Apparently the lemurs at the zoo weren't happy with the pygmy goats getting more attention than them. There was also a rooster that seemed to be quite offended at the fact that it got itself in the same exhibit with a bunch of geese. That thing would not shut up.
I also got to see a tried-and-true northern red neck couple. The guy walks up to the lemurs and says in a flawless backwoods accent "Looks like a coon, don't it?". Yes, I bet it does Billy-Bob.
I now have a week to clean up my room so my grandma doesn't lecture me about it. So then she can criticize how much pop I drink, how much TV I watch, the clothes I wear, what I do in every waking moment AND how I drive. Believe it or not, I AM looking forward to her visiting.
I'll make a post later with pikshers and my thoughts on the VV08 Forum.
