I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE A SEVENTH BLOCK NEXT YEAR. HOO-RAY, HOO-RAY!
US History actually had real discussion. We were talking about the final chapter of Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States (a must read if you're interested in human rights). Marion brought up white privilege, and we had a great discussion basically saying that it would really help if white people would take our heads out of our asses and learn about race issues and confront our privilege. It was probably a minor miracle that no one said "but I don't *believe* in white privilege!!11"
However, this state of people not being jackasses did not last. As soon as Sarah and I had clarified that feminism is not about hating men, and includes the equality of men and women, all the guys in the class started whining about how unfair it is that men are more likely to get pulled over and get a speeding ticker. Boo fucking hoo. Go cry a river and come back when you can comprehend what REAL gender discrimination is. Because, funnily enough, the reason guys get ticketed more is because male police officers are much more likely to assume that a woman driving over the speed limit was simply too dumb to realize what she was doing. Obviously, women don't know what a speed limit is or how to read the speedometer. And men are always on top of everything, and don't ever make mistakes. Therefore, every time a guy speeds, he's doing it on purpose and it couldn't possibly have been because he was in a hurry or hadn't been obsessing over his driving. And every time a girl speeds, it's because she doesn't know any better. Let's have a round of applause for taking everything in the world at face value and not reading into it.
I expect some storm to come to the ADT, because Miko is back and seems to have started recycling her horrendous arguments. "Therapeutic abortion" is one of them. I wonder when she'll bring back the good ol' "women who get abortions are victimizing themselves" argument? OXYTOCIN LOL?
