Anna Nicole Smith - very sad. I also feel like there are two totally different stories happening at once with her. One is the story of an individual who was complicated and imperfect, but a survivor up until this point. And then the other one is the story of the image she either projected or had projected onto her. This is going to sound like a harsh thing to say, but I don't mean it to be, and I think it's because I really haven't watched that much TV in the past 3 years and am pretty disconnected from pop culture, so she hasn't been on my radar screen as much as she used to be - but in some way, this end to her story seems appropriate. I'm not saying it's good that she died, because it's not, it's terrible. But to the extent that she was kind of this larger-than-life fictional character, this is the way that character's story seems to end. Maybe it was the Marilyn Monroe thing with her. I wish she would have been able to skip that part and go on and someday be a colorful, elderly famous female who has become an iconic gay reference. I guess what I'm saying is I wish she had had the chance to become Liz Taylor, or Liza Minelli or Elaine Stritch. Because that was the alternate ending, in my mind anyway.
