Yesterday my family had my good bye lunch. We had aperatifs, (drinks and crackers), opened presents, had the meal, and then dessert. I had emailed my mom what I wanted to get for everyone in my host family, and their presents arrived last week. We got a teddy bear for Constance, a calendar of old American cars for Paul, a book about the gadgets of James Bond for Baptiste, an English word page-a-day calendar for my host dad, and placemats and napkins for my host mom that match the runner I gave her when I came to Nantes in September. Everyone was really happy with their gifts! Paul was like "how did you know I like cars?" (I knew because there was a dinner table discussion about them a couple weeks ago). Constance immediatley proceeded to take one of the boxes the presents were wrapped in and made a bed for her teddy bear. My host dad starting flipping through the page-a-day, and Baptiste looked through his book. My host mom set the table with the placemats and napkins.
My host family gave me gifts as well. Somone in my hsot mom's family is a jeweller, and she gave me a silver brooch, the same gift she gave her oldest daughter, her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law-to-be, and the American student they had last year. It's a really pretty brooch, and I was really touched (as cheesy as that sounds) to receive it, especially when I found out the other recipients are other women who are daughters to my host mom. My family also gave me a book about Nantes, and a dice game for me, Harry, and Alix.
For lunch we had crêpes, which is what I had asked for as my last family meal . My host mom makes DELICIOUS crêpes. Well actually, crêpes that you eat for the meal are called galettes, and the crêpes are the dessert ones, but she makes great both kinds. The typical galette in France is jambon, oeuf, fromage, (ham, egg, cheese) but my host mom made mine with turkey. DELISH. And for dessert we had ice cream with fudgy chocolate. Also delicious. Everyone was in a good mood because of the presents, and it was a nice, relaxed family meal. It was also kind of sad though, because I knew that it was my last Saturday with my family, and that my host brothers won't really be here this coming week. So it was the last time we'll all be together.
After lunch I watched "Les Choristes" with my host mom, which was pretty good and I'll be ordering on amazon when I get back so that my parents can see it.
Then, last night, I went to dinner (at a crêperie, lol) with Molly and her boyfriend who was in town this past week and left this morning, and then back at Molly's house we watched "The Bourne Supremacy."
Today has been pretty ridiculous. I ate lunch with my family but other than that I've been sitting in my room trying to study but way too distracted by the fact that my grades don't count, I just have to pass, and that I'm GOING HOME 6 DAYS FROM TODAY.
2 exams down, 3 to go, and the hardest of those 3 is tomorrow, Art History. I'll study some more after dinner, but to be honest, I'm finding it hard to care . . .
