Tatooine

Within the next few months I hope to receive a piece of artwork that will be adorning my body until the end of time (well, my time). I am actually in the process of choosing the perfect idea/artwork to present to the tattoo artist. I am also in the process of finding the perfect tattoo artist, and I do believe that he/she resides at Infinity Tattoo in Portland. By the way, I am looking to have the tattoo infiltrate my pores beginning at my shoulder and ending just past my elbow.

Here are my ideas for the perfect piece -
  • A maze that begins on the back of my arm and stealthily wraps around my entire shoulder, finally tapering off just below my elbow. This maze will be the artists rendition of a certain maze-like design that I have drawn ever since I was a child. Whenever I was feeling anxious, stressed, or even bored, I would take a blank piece of notebook paper, start at the corner, and then proceed to fill the entire page up with this maze-like design. It is actually very cool and also very unique. It would be black and grey with possibly a nice shade of a green or blue throughout the piece.
I am leaning towards this idea -
  • A complete re-creation of Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night or Starry Night Over the Rhone.

Starry Night

Starry Night Over the Rhone

These paintings have equally been my favorite paintings ever since elementary school. The colors, the whimsical textures, the genius. I remember losing myself in the latter multiple times when I was a child. How interesting would that be to have a full painting on one's arm? To me, that would be the epitome of fantastic.

I know that 95% of people's reasoning for getting tattoos can easily be slid into two categories -
  • This said person receives a tattoo that will represent/commemorate a "struggle" ( I so adoringly attach quotations to the word struggle for the simple reason that most people who end up getting tattoos to represent their "struggle" usually get a tattoo of something that has NOTHING to do with that so-called "struggle") - or a death, or a victory, or a failure - etc.
  • This other said person impatiently receives a tattoo at the spur of the moment without any thought process whatsoever - and usually ends up emphatically regretting it. You can tell who these people are because their tattoos are usually cartoon characters, some type of sun-like-splotch-thing that will be found on the lower-back, or it is in the process of removal.
Because I have not been through a "struggle" that merits a sorry excuse for a permanent body mark nor will I rush into this - I guess that puts me into the 5% of the population.
  • This small percentage of the population will receive a tattoo because he/she loves the thought of expressing themselves through an unbelievably bad ass piece of body-art. Their reasoning? They love the thought of expressing themselves through an unbelievably bad ass piece of body-art. No excuse is needed for these people.
And there you have it.

I will be receiving a tattoo in the next couple of months, preferably before school starts.

Does anyone have any advice or input?

And if you do not feel like looking through the portfolio of the three artists, here are a few ( I say few, because there are sooo many) of the pieces that struck me as thoroughly impressive and extremely unique.

Ouch.

Purty.

Nightmare Before Christmas-like.

Charcoal Black Crow

Whimsical Octopus.

So Awesome.

I love the random aliens

Those were just a few of many. Check out the portfolios of the tattoo artists! They are spectacular.
