Musings about Grease YTOTIW & Methos
Anyone who knows me knows that I adore Methos... Hands down, my favorite character ever. Love Peter Wingfield who is not just the man who gave a lot of the character to the character, but a super nice guy and fantasic actor... Hands down, my favorite actor. But not the only one I like. I have always been fan girl, you know. Timothy Dalton ("Lion In Winter - sigh!), James Spader, and Hugh Jackman - to name a few more.
But recently, I have absolutely become enchanted with Max Crumm. Yes, you heard that right! Max Crumm, who won the Grease You're the One That I Want reality show to play Danny on Broadway. There is something about this kid that I think he has the potential to be really terrific. He's a bit like Peter in his acting... expressive face and eyes, not worried about how he looks on camera. And he's funny! Sorry, Peter, but he also has a better singing voice. (No, I don't love you any less...)
I don't usually watch reality shows, but I tuned into this one to see how it was being handled and if the talent was, as I expected, really prescreened to those who had enough talent to do a Broadway show. Of course, it was. By the time you got to the final three couples, any pair of them could have done the show. But the first time I saw Max, I was hooked.
So, the real puzzler might be why this quirky guy with so much talent actually won rather than one of the really good-looking guys on the reality show? Is it possible that American voters actually valued talent over handsome or was it his personality that won it? Or just being the underdog in the compeition maybe? Could be. Interesting that Laura Osnes who won the role of Sandy wasn't the blonde beauty that most of the Sandy contestants were. One other brunette was eliminated early on.
Well, enough rambling on that subject. I have a couple of ideas in my brain for a new Methos story and a few pages started on one, but nothing ready to post yet. At least the old man is talking to me again...
