The show has a lot of potential. Definitely.
But what the hell?!'
No, really, what the fucking hell!
The team consist of:
Robin
Superboy
Kid Flash
Miss Martian
Artemis
Aqualad
Mentor: Red Tornado and Black Canary
And this is where 'What the hell!'' comes to play.
In original lineup of the comics, Young Justice consisted of:
Robin
Superboy
Impulse (original three)
Wonder Girl
Secret
Arrowette
Mentor: Red Tornado
Robin was older and the leader. He's not the leader in the animated version which means the dynamics will be off no matter what. I assume they did not want to have the Robin leading a team of young heroes again like in Teen Titans. But that was a different team and Tim is a vastly different Robin form Dick, but OK. Still, MINUS.
Wait. Wait!
Huh. Apparently, Robin is DICK Greyson. ......
THAT'S Tim's uniform, I'm sure .....
MINUS.
MINUS!!!
Superboy is darker in the cartoon. I approve, seems more realistic to me. PLUS. And if they do a smart move and explore his relationship to Superman more... PLUS.
KId Flash is Wally West and like Robin, and like Aqualad, he is from original Teen Titans lineup.
Why the devil didn't they just name this Teen Titans on Earth-16?!?!
Anyway, this is a MINUS. Impulse was an engaging character, with deep background and life that truly demonstrated the purpose of teams like Young Justice and Teen Titans. To grow as a person and hero. Hell, another MINUS.
Miss Martian. What is she doing here?! She wasn't in any of the original lineups of both teams. Why her?
Not that she's not an interesting character. Oh, no. I'm not sure how much they choose to take from her background in Comics, but there's definitely room for fantastic things there. PLUS for putting her in a team and PLUS for potential exploration of her Martian roots.
Artemis. Who's that? Seriously.
She didn't appear in the first two episodes so I can only speculate, but she seems to be a revamp of Arrowette. Being blond, an archer and all.
Why did they change her name and uniform I have no bloody idea. But they get a MINUS for that.
Aqualad. He's handsome, mature and has an air of a noble. PLUS! PLUS for putting him as a leader. He always had potential to be more in teams he was in so thumbs up! for giving him that chance.
Wait!!!!
I assumed he was just a different version of Garth, but he is actually a second Aqualad. Brand new one so his character still needs to be built both in the comics and animation.
Interesting....
PLUS for putting Black Canary on the list of mentors. That ought to be interesting.
CONCLUSION:
If I count correctly: 7 PLUSES and 6 MINUSES.
In general, it's not so important.
What's important is that the show is named Young Justice but only one member (and one mentor) are identical to Comic original.
That's too low for them to call the show like that.
On the other hand, there are three members of the Teen Titans there. Four if you count Miss Martian as a late comer.
Truly, Teen Titans on Earth-16, being that's where this is happening in DC Multiverse, would be a much more fitting title.
Recommendation:
You loved Young Justice as a Comic, you'll probably like this one as well.
But in general, except for the name (and Superboy) they don't have a thing in common.
And, really and truly, why is Robin not TIM!?!
If you liked Teen Titans, you'll either love different version or turn your head in disgust. I presume.
I'll check with my brother...
...............
You know, there's some interesting potential for romances there.
But I didn't notice those get much attention in animated versions.
Pity.
