For those of you in the unknown, with this summer's arc Flashpoint DC begins the Reboot of their series.
Now, I'm generally all for it. I mean just look at the comics from few decades ago, one can hardly believe people were interested in those themes and plots. People and societies change and comics should definitely reflect that with their themes and characterizations.
Star Trek reboot was great; I liked the idea of Superman having a son and that really should be explored more.
I also heard good things about new X-Men movie and I hope to watch it this week. Since I was never a die hard fan I hope I'll be able to become one.
Rumors I heard of the new continuity seem interesting - I'm ready for the new incarnation of the Justice League, Superman not being married will be nice..... The one thing that squeezes my poor heart is the Batman's Universe.
Now, after many messy messes everything is finally where I'm happy with it and they are erasing it!
Bruce Wayne reached a new understanding of himself. Dick had to abandon Nightwing (and gods did I love that series) and step into his mentor's shoes. Tim is grown up and walking along interesting paths (he's my favourite).
Jason.... well they made a bit of a..... screw-up there, but we finally arrived at the point where he might be able to reach some sort of equilibrium or something. I also love that snotty brat Damien and consider him a fascinating character that can give us so much.
Barbara has attained some peace. Cassandra is mostly out of the picture right now, but there so much more there can be said about her. Stephanie.... could become less of a nuisance at some point in the future.
Oh, and Batman is franchising. Weird or ingenious I'm not sure, but certainly has potential.
And at this exciting point of all their stories we are going BACK to Batman and Robin?!?! Does anyone remember All Star series that was also a 'modern' restart? That was an insane fuck up!
I just... it's seems so wrong to rollback all developments the entire Bat clan went through. To delete most of them actually, if we are returning to the beginning. Furthermore I was never really into Dick as Robin, Nightwing is when I began liking him. Barbara was also never a favourite of mine.
I mean, goddamit, attracting new fans is fine, erasing characters in which someone had decades of emotional investment is wrong.
Then again, I am being a hypocrite because I'm lamenting only my dearests and being all 'live and let live' with the rest of them.
So sue me. Or maybe sue DC for emotional pain....
Anyway, bravo if you paid attention to the end of this little pity fest. Thank you.
I hope they won't screw this up and that they do know what the hell they are doing.
