So I overslept this morning and missed my first two classes and the first 15ish minutes of physics. No yay. Cell lab was rather short, as each of the four groups got about 45 minutes to look at our Drosophila cells using the spiffy microscope. My group was of course the third group to go (because we lack coin toss skills), so we got to leave until 2:45. This was a Good Thing because it gave me time to have lunch and do a physics problem (and start a second one). However, my group lacked Spiffy Microscope skills because we had a hard time finding the nurse cells (and pulling the image up on the computer so we could do fun colour things with the program we were using) once Dr Richard left. But then we figured it out so all was well.
We had a Christmas-tree decorating CBA (community building activity) this afternoon in which we decorated the tree in the Seibert lobby. It was much fun and the tree looks gorgeous--we used the little clear lights (which sort of became my job--hehe) and the ornaments consist of mostly gold balls, fosted gold balls, and clear balls with sparkly white-and-silver snowflakes. And the secretary let us use her garland, so the staircase now has clear lights and garland on. I ♥ Christmas and Christmas decorating! Mary then showed us the most amazing thing in the Acts suite: a VeggieTales Nativity scene. Jimmy and Jerry Gourd are dressed up as a cow, the French peas are sheep, Larry the Cucumber, Mr Lunt, and I think Archie Asparagus are the three Wise Men (I can't remember who the third one is), Junior Asparagus is either a shepherd or Joseph (I couldn't really tell), and the angel, Mary, and Baby Jesus are all carrots. For some reason, Bob the Tomato was not there. This saddened me. There is also apparently a VeggieTales Christmas tree, which Mary has promised to burn for me.
Ross and I did recycling in Aikens--it's actually not a bad res hall to do recycling in. I found some odd things to-day, such as vodka that comes in a large plastic bottle that's handily shaped for easy gripping (like the big bottles of juice) and an attached thing over the top for easy pouring (this doesn't seem to me like it would be very good quality, though there was a shiny seal on it that said "Quality since *insert date here*"). There was also low calorie Welsh's juice. I always thought juice was a Healthy and Good choice to begin with . . .
After dinner, I went to the Tri-Beta (biological honour society) induction/election meeting, which really wasn't very interesting, but I did find out the rather amusing meaning behind the three betas.
This very long and probably boring entry brought to you because I haven't had a real update in quite a while.
As seen on
nentari's journal,
Sort me, please! (hopefully the link works).
And if any of you would like Christmas/Hanukkah/holiday cards and haven't done so already, please fill out my holiday card
poll :)
I think I'm done now.
