I danced today--*SQUEE!!* :D I was originally going to practise pointe in Isaacs' Auditorium, which is right downstairs, but when I went down, 'twas locked--apparently they lock it at 11 . . . so instead I went to the SAVE suite--I borrowed Erin's chair to do some barre work, and then did centre stuff across the floor in the suite's common room ('tisn't very big, but 'tis bigger than the small space I have in my room--here I could do about 6 or 7 pique drops [I only did 5 though, because I don't like them] before running into a wall) . . . I didn't really do too much centre stuff (because I'm rather bad)--just some polines, bourees (ouch--but since the floor's carpeted, they were whisper-soft for once--hehe), evil pique drops, and I attempted a few chaines and pique turns--I apologise for brutally murdering the spelling of the dance terms, but I only took 6 weeks of French in 8th grade and I only remember "fromage" (yay for cheese) and some of the numbers . . . it felt good to be doing pointe again (*figuratively* that is)--I probably danced for about 45 minutes or so, which was how long our pointe classes used to be at my studio . . .
Let's see, earlier this afternoon, I went to Wal*Mart with Sarah, Richie, and Dana to buy a Secret Santa gift for the Gospel Choir Christmas party tonight (plus I bought a box of Hershey's chocolate mint candy canes--my favourite kind) and I wrapped almost all of my presents in my adorable snowman & penguin wrapping paper (including some *very* creative packaging for my roomie) while listening to my holiday music playlist (which is the Polar Express soundtrack, Michael Crawford's Christmas album, Hayley Westenra's Christmas album (which also has non-Christmas-y songs on it) and songs I have on other albums that are Christmas-y, like Josh Groban's "O Holy Night" (*swoon*) and "The Prayer", Sarah Brightman's "Ave Maria" and "Winter Light" and Simon & Garfunkel's "Comfort and Joy" (and those are three Christmas albums I wish existed . . .)--I love wrapping presents and giving people gifts! :D Dana and I met Nate for dinner at Encore. Since Erin was going to be running from Chorale to Gospel Choir, we decided to get her some dinner : Dana contributed the half of her chicken finger wrap she wasn't going to eat, Nate donated his chips, and I added a bottle of Snapple from my crate. (it turned out that she'd eaten dinner in record time between her two activities, but appreciated that we'd decided to feed her) . . .
Carolling was so much fun!! The place we went to was more of an assisted-living building than a nursing home. The residents really loved our singing and some of them even sang along. I felt so good about making their day a bit brighter and 'twas great to be really singing again (I don't really like the style of music we sing in Gospel choir, but singing carols was more my style) . . . afterwards, we went to the SAVE suite and had our Christmas party, which consisted of us exchanging Secret Santa gifts (Erin got me these nifty window clings that look like they're made of Jello--she has them on her message board and I'm always saying they're awesome--she has a Christmas tree set, and bought me a penguin set . . . yay for penguins!), eating food, and watching The Preacher's Wife, which I'd never seen before--'twas quite good . . . after everyone else left, Erin and I talked for awhile, including a conversation about penguins (one topic was whether fairy penguins or emperor penguins would be better sized feathery companions [fairy penguins are the smallest species, emperors are the largest) and being generally insane--we also came up with a new quote: "I bow and curtsy to you at the same time!"--'tis actually quite easy to do--haha . . . after that, I went back to my room and listened to more Christmas music, until I went off to practise my pointe, which is where I started my entry--hehe, I went backwards (sort of)!
I love the Christmas season :)
