Because it's so close to the exam period, Risley Hall has intigated an 12 hour quiet time. From eight to eight, we're supposed to shut up. This doesn't really affect me in the slightest. Nothing I do is loud anyway. Tonight, I was working with my friend Erin on a project for french class. Evidentally, the RAs were having a meeting somewhere and the students were left to their own devices. In the meantime, a gaggle of very silly girls had been having a soapy water fight in the bathroom.

I had just thought that an indoor slip and slide would be the worst of Risley Hall's monday evening behaviours, when suddenly, an alarm went off.

Now, I've only been in this building since Janaury. I wasn't around for orientation so I don't know the protocol. I have a panic button in my room. For a moment, Erin and I looked dazedly at eacother, each thinking the other had pushed it by accident. Then, we looked up and the wall and there was a bright red light flashing. It occured to me at this point that it might be some kind of alarm. I popped my head out the door to investigate.

I learned, rather quickly, that it was a fire alarm. Students were evacuating via stairs...Had I thought it was a real fire I might have grabbed my laptop. I was convinced it wasn't. But Erin made the comment that if it were a drill, they would not have chosen to do it at 9PM, on a Monday night, a week before the exam period. We went outside and waited, bemused.

Turns out, someone had been smoking pot in their room.
And how do I know this? Because I could smell it when I got outside. On most of the people around me. Ironically enough, I smelled it on a couple of the RAs.

And this is the one-- and probably will be the only-- "WTF" experience I have had while living in Risley Hall.

The end.
