Alaska

So I haven't even been back a full day yet and I've had tons of questions on why I went to Alaska, etc. Since I can't sleep, I thought I'd go ahead and write a blog on my little trip to see Kyle.

Before I get into details about my trip, I'm gonna start off with the reason I went out to Alaska. So everyone who knows me at all knows that I've been really excited about Kyle coming home on leave, and finally getting to see him again. After he finally arrived in Alaska, he called and told me that the Army decided to extend his company's deployment in Iraq, and that he wasn't exactly sure how long he'd be in Alaska for. He asked if I wanted to go out there and see him, and of course my initial reaction was "I can't..." With 4 jobs, I thought it would be impossible for me to bail on work and go see him, but I got it all to work out. Thanks to Erica and Tony for being awseome bosses [I was a total wreck when I talked to Erica about it, and she encouraged me to go. She was totally supportive in my decision and told me she'd have me covered at Orientation and that I could make up my Intern hours later. When I talked to Tony, he just took me off the schedule for the weekend I planned on going, even tho I was already scheduled to work all weekend at Gap.]!

So anyway, my trip. I left Milwaukee Thursday morning, and got to Alaska in the evening (their time). Kyle picked me up from the airport (with Jacob) and the three of us went to dinner at this little restaurant near the airport. I was totally exhausted so Kyle and I stayed in that night, which was fine with me since all I wanted to do that night was just spend time with him.

Friday we spent a lot of time together, and later on went out with his friends. We went out to dinner with some of the guys on Friday, and then dropped them off at a bar and went to a couples thing, where one of his friends was having a barbeque. I met some of the Army wives (which actually reminded me of hanging out with girls from high school). The girls were sweet tho, and I had a lot of fun talking to them about random things. After the barbeque, we went out to a couple of bars and ended up staying out all night (definately not something I used to doing...but I had a lot of fun).

Saturday we went shopping and then went out to the fair in Fairbanks. We walked around, and I watched Kyle and Jacob go on this terrifying catapult-type of ride - twice (crazy men...). After the fair, we went back to the Barracks to get some things, and then went out to a couple of bars (again) and then went out to breakfast with a bunch of people (while we were at the restaurant, Jacob and Kyle went and checked into the rooms we stayed in for the rest my stay) after the bars closed up for the night.

Sunday we did a bunch of tourist-y things. We went out to the Chena Hot Springs and stopped along the way so I (and Kyle) could take photos. The Hot Springs was nice. We stopped and had lunch at the restaurant out there and then went on a tour of the ice museum, where we got some fun pictures. After the Ice Museum (where I froze my ass off...) we went over to the springs and I took pictures of Jacob and Kyle swimming. On our way home there was a moose on the side of the road eating. We got tons of pictures of this guy...who was not too far from the car. We got home and went to a movie (Night Listeners...which I actually liked and Kyle hated...). After the movie, we went out that night with a bunch of people, where Savannah (one of the girls I met out there) got me drunk to the point that Kyle had to take me back to the room (I know there are a bunch of you who are gonna think that's hilarious, considering I really have never been really drunk before...lol).

Monday I spent some time in the morning with Hannah (one of the other girls Kyle introduced me to earlier in the week, and who I was also out with the night before). We talked a lot in the morning, and she helped me move Kyle's and my things into the single room we decided to stay in. Then we went out to lunch before she had to go off to an appointment and then to work. Kyle and I spent the evening alone. We went out for Korean food for dinner and then went to see John Tucker Must Die (I'll admit I actually liked the movie. It was pretty funny...). After the movie we had a quiet night in and went to bed fairly early.

Tuesday was my last day there. Kyle had to work in the morning, so I got a chance to sleep in. Before he got back to the room, I packed up someof my clothes and things, so I wouldn't have to rush to do it later that night (and so all we would have to do was throw my stuff into the car and then head off to the airport). When Kyle got back to the room, we ran some errands and went out to lunch with his friend Chris (the one who had lent us his car all weekend) and then went out to see Talladega Nights. After the movie, Chris decided to stick around for another movie, so Kyle and I headed back to the room to spend the last couple of hours alone. I was such a baby! I started crying back at the room, hours before I even had to leave. Kyle called Gene and his stepdad to get them to make me feel better. lol. I guess it helped...enough to get me to stop crying for a little bit.

My flight left Alaska at 9:40 pm (12:40 am here). At the airport I cried more (God I'm such a girl...) and was kind of a wreck. I was sad to leave Kyle, and honestly...I don't want to have to wait another 4 months before I get to see him again! But I guess I'll have to... Anyway, my flight finally got into Milwaukee at about 8:30 this morning. My stepmom and Alex picked me up from the airport. I fell asleep on accident, and ended up sleeping from about 11 am until 4 pm today out of pure travel and emotional exhaustion.

Overall, I had an amazing time with my guy. I loved getting the chance to spend time with him, and meet some of his friends. I can't wait to see him again (I love you baby!)

Now that I'm done with talking about my trip, I'm off to attempt to get some sleep, since I have to work at 9 am tomorrow. Night everyone!
