The roofless house is actually a metaphor of how Seunghoon saw his mother giving in to his father's addiction and abuse without fighting it. The house loves the sky too much it gave up the roof, then get blamed for not having a roof, and later on the house get used to not having a roof anymore. That's how Seunghoon saw his mother, as a victim trying to make sense out of her ruined life by telling her fantasies to her son, which ends up making him drawn to her tragedy more so than her survival. If that makes sense.
I think for me in the end it's Jinwoo who put a wake up call upon Seunghoon who still struggles with his loneliness and messy life, and that gave him a reason to think about himself not as a reflection or mimic of his mother but his own person. Hinted in the story is that after his mother committed suicide in the hospital, he lost his only connection to his family/house and has to find a new way to construct a new one. So he talked to Jinwoo and realized for other people houses are built to be home, and not to be destroyed by the storms.
Thank you for enjoying the story as much as I enjoyed writing this. I never read Butterfly Effect, or are you talking about the movie?
