Last one! And hey, the cuts work both places - go me! ^_^ ♥

sg_prompts is hosting WIPs for commenting/feedback. So I thought I'd do one for each fandom. For the record, if anyone has help/suggestions/ideas/chocolate bribes to make me work faster, that would be awesome. Also, if anyone wants to take an idea and run with it/comment fic on it that would be awesome-er (what? It's a word) and wouldn't prevent me from continuing mine.

This is a companion to Connection, which is Idol from Jack's POV. It's currently stalled out because Sky doesn't let me into his head easily. Also, I'd like to flesh out Sky's conflicting emotions between his love and loyalty to Dru, and his growing feelings for Jack. I want him to be more torn.

Sky pretended to be reading as he surreptitiously watched Jack in the command chair. It occurred to him that he should be upset by Jack’s obvious lack of respect. Instead he was focused on how sexy Jack looked all sprawled out.

Images from the last time they were together rose in his memory. His brain rocketed from one erotic image to the next - fingers bruising his hips, warm hand stealing around to jerk him off with long firm strokes, Jack rocking into him slowly but steadily.

He snuck a quick look at his team leader and found Jack watching at him knowingly. The red ranger raised an eyebrow, and Sky flushed hotly. Bastard. Sky comforted himself by listing ways to make Jack pay for that later. He could make sure Jack would never sit in that chair again without blushing.

Jack was still watching him with that smug look. Sky deliberately turned his full attention to the manual. He was concentrating so hard on ignoring Jack that he missed Bridge’s warning until Syd added her voice. Then it was all business as they rushed to investigate the UFO.

When he saw the SPD logo on the craft, his first thought was of Charlie. That’s why he volunteered to investigate. That idea was quickly abandoned when he saw only one figure. There was nothing on any world that could have forced Charlie to return without her team.

“Boy, am I glad to see you guys. Sorry for causing all this damage,” the stranger said. Something about that voice made Sky’s heart clench. It sounded so familiar, but it had to be his imagination. Dru was gone, lost a year ago on a mission. But when the helmet came off it revealed a painfully familiar visage.

“Dru?” Sky could hear the hoarseness of his voice. He powered down and was rewarded by the look of wonder on Dru’s face. He could feel Dru’s joy mixing with his own as they embraced. Then they smashed their coils together and for one moment it was like they’d never been apart.

Dru squeezed into the cockpit of Sky’s Delta Runner. Neither man spoke on the way back to base, the silence was still comfortable. Sky kept stealing happy glances at his passenger. Once he thought he caught a strange look on his friend’s face - sorrow or maybe regret. He wanted to ask, but after three years he wasn’t certain where their boundaries were. There would be time to sort that all out later. For now he was content to know his friend was alive.

Back at base, he and the rest of B-Squad escorted Dru to the common area while Sky introduced everyone.

“Dru and I started out at the academy years ago. We were best friends,” he informed his teammates. It wasn’t really a lie; they were best friends, it just wasn’t the complete truth either. They were more than friends, but that was hardly the squad’s business.

“So, is this guy still wild and wacky?” Dru asked with a fond smile. Sky’s eyes widened in alarm. He needed to change the subject before Z and Syd learned something they could use against him later.

“So what happened to you?” he asked. “Last I heard, you were missing in action over a year ago. I thought you were…” Sky could feel himself getting agitated. Only years of practice at hiding his pain kept his voice steady.

“Well, I’m not.” Dru grabbed his arms as he spoke, as if trying to reassure Sky of his presence.

“Whatever happened, you look great,” Syd said. Sky turned to face her. He couldn’t help the happy grin on his face. He knew he must look like some crazed fanboy, but he didn’t care. Dru did look great. He half listened as Dru explained why he was here and offered up his coil again.

“What’s up with the bracelets?” Jack asked. Sky could hear the derision in his voice. He suppressed a flash of annoyance only to have it replaced by guilt. It had been less than half an hour since he’d been envisioning the red ranger naked in the command center and now he’d nearly forgotten Jack was still here. Sky wasn’t sure which part made him feel worse. He studied his coil rather than look at either man as Dru explained.

“On my home planet of Tangar, it’s tradition to share a coil with your closet…” Sky did look at Dru now, wondering how fully he intended to explain things. “…friend to always feel that connection, no matter where you are in the galaxy.” Sky wasn’t sure if he should be grateful or disappointed by the description. Just like his claim of best friends earlier it was true; it just wasn’t the whole truth. The bracelets could represent friendship, but they could also be a promise. Theirs came with a promise.

Jack seemed utterly unimpressed. Sky felt that flash of guilty annoyance again but squashed it. He couldn’t understand Jack’s attitude. He was acting like a jealous lover, but they had agreed long ago that it was only sex between them. Their intimacy didn’t extend beyond the physical. Although, lately Sky had found himself wanting…well it probably didn’t matter. And Jack couldn’t possibly know about Dru.

Oh yes he could his mind insisted. Virgins didn’t randomly propose casual sex to their team leaders. Jack would have to be blind and dumb to see Sky with Dru and not make the connection.

“I guess you don’t have a best friend,” Dru said. That was actually a pretty cruel thing to say. It was also not entirely accurate as Z’s presence before them clearly indicated. Irrationally, Sky felt angry with the yellow ranger for not speaking up. He decided to stop the sniping before Jack somebody got hurt.

Giving significant looks to both men, Sky announced his intention to take Dru to a room. Jack stopped them before they reached the door. There was no mistaking the challenge in his voice. Sky watched as Jack walked past him and out the door. Even with Dru so close, Sky couldn’t tear his eyes away from his sometime-lover. Jack was hot when he was being cocky.
