First off, major major props for Lily wanting to honeymoon in Australia. It doesn't take much to make the patriot in me happy, and you managed it in one line!
Other than that, I love the delicate balance you've struck between the happiness of the day and the threat of the war and everything that's going on in the world around them, without veering into overly schmoopy fluff or overloading on the angst.
If I could have a private beach right in my backyard, if only for a day, that would be the most awesome thing ever! Well done, James. I like that Lily kept her bit of Muggle heritage by wearing the dress. I'm glad that one day at least they could push the war back. I felt for Lily, having to be so practical about her expectations, and I'm glad James came through with something extraordinary.
Given how young Lily and James were when they died, it's really nice to think that they had a few perfect days like the one you portrayed so beautifully in your story. I thought you did a good job of balancing the bleakness of the time, versus the inherent happiness of a wedding, and I especially like the mention of Lily's Muggle heritage. And I adored the transformed beach idea - it's sweet and lovely without being cloying or cliche, and a great way to end event (and the fic!). Thanks for this!
What I enjoyed most about this fic was the way that you kept things realistic. With the war going on, James and Lily would have been incredibly limited on what they could and couldn't have. As bad as it sounds, I like how their wedding was tainted in this fic, mostly because I'm sure in some ways it had been.
And I also liked the idea of Lily in a Muggle gown as opposed to dress robes. It just seems to me that it's more her style and that she would want to honor her heritage in that way. That, and I think it's the perfect image for James and Lily and everything they are fighting for in this war -- the right for Muggle-borns to exist in the wizarding world. So by having this union happen while Lily has chosen to wear a Muggle gown -- marking her -- was just a really brilliant choice!
I really liked the way you did the timeline of this piece, showing us scenes before and after the wedding, really framing it. And, as has been said, I liked Lily wearing a muggle dress. It really just seems fitting - my head!canon Lily would've wanted to wear one as well.
