I've attended the first class of each course now, so let's get to it.
Engl 215: The class format intrigues me. It's the equivalent of Engl 250 at Camosun, and it's not quite what I was expecting. But I think I'm pleased by that?? There's going to be a lot of in-class writing, that doesn't need to be turned in. Idea is just to get you writing. And there's just 4 essays or something. The topics all kinda intrigue me. I think I'll have fun with it.
The prof.. Pickard.. I'm not quite sure what to make of him yet. He had this.. sorta.. calm.. arrogance? charisma? I'm not quite sure what to call it. I hated it and loved it all at once. We'll see how that goes.
Engl 310: I am NOT looking forward to the 9 essays. But I do know two people in the class, which helps. It seems like it'll be interesting. We'll be approaching things from a mostly "new critical" approach, which means we kinda.. do a fresh read, not necessarily considering background stuff on the author.. the time.. etc.. just looking at what's in front of us. Which works for me! I find the background stuff interesting, but I also like just having a go at it without having to consider all that extra stuff. Either way, it's totally neat stuff, like diction, symbols, figurative language, etc. hehehe.. well I think it's neat. :)
The prof.. Leighton. I really like her so far. She's super young!! Or at least looks it anyway!! I can't see her being that much older than me. She seemed to talk a lot at first, I thought she might be a little nervous, esp. since she was late, her watch was way off. lol. But it was refreshing.
Engl 452: Five little ducks went out one day, over the hill and far away. Mother duck said, "Quack, quack, quack, quack," but only four little ducks came back. Relevance? That was sung to us. Yet the guy's face is totally expressionless. So I'm not quite sure what to make of him yet either! Dopp.. he seems enthused about poetry, which is nice. I'm not quite sure if I'm quite into the material, but he might pull it off well enough for me to enjoy it. :)
Edci 353: I know two people in this class too (though one was just called out, not present). I think I'm goint to love it. It's a class on teaching young adult literature. I've already read one of the books on the assignment list, Lois Lowry's "The Giver." It's awesome. One of my absolute favourite stories from school. There's also a choice between two graphic novels, one of which really caught my attention from his description of it, about a young Iranian girl and the troubles she has growing up, etc. And lots of the other books sound interesting. But all the assignments are geared towards creating activities in which you could teach the books to students.
The prof.. Zook (like book).. I love.. why wasn't he teaching at my high school?!? (He's a high school teacher out of Calgary, on a two year to teach this course). He's so friendly, and I am really looking forward to the structure of the class. And, not that it matters of course, but he's very attractive. *cough* Don't tell Paul. hehehe. ;)
Anyway.. will have a more concrete opinion as things progress.. but there's my first impressions. :)
