Thought, Word, and Deed

Last November, I really examined Christmas, its origins, and why we celebrate it. I took a step back to research it and look over what it's become in recent years, then see where the Lord led me on the issue and whether I felt it was something we should celebrate or not. After it all, my feelings on Christmas ended up being the same as before; I love Christmas, it's my favorite holiday, and I'll listen to Christmas music for months as the season draws near. :) However, I'm still glad I took those weeks to research it and draw my own conclusions. I don't want to ever simply accept something because our culture says it's right or because it's tradition. I believe too many Christians gloss over things and "go with the flow", rather than seeking out what's truly pleasing to God.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17

But aviod irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness. 2 Timothy 2:16

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak Matthew 12:36

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:6

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

These scriptures make it clear that we're to honor God in thought, word, and deed, and glorify Him in all we do. How can we do that if we don't examine our actions and words, and line them up with scripture?

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

As Christians, it is essential to examine what we say and do and hold it up to Scripture, to see if it is glorifying to God and bringing Him honor. We should never grow passive and indifferent, making light of what we say or do. We should do all to the glory of God, and bring Him honor first and foremost.

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
