Visiting the zoo is such an ageless experience. Once I get past the sadness that these poor animals are stuck in cages, I love seeing the animals and learning about them as much as my kids. The Erie Zoo is small in comparison to the ones found in larger cities, but it's only a 30min drive from our house and can be thoroughly enjoyed in less then a full day. We arrived and 11:30 and had seen everything by 3:30. That included eating lunch and letting Madelyn play at the playground for a while. We still had energy to run some necessary errands before heading home to make sushi and then enjoy an evening swim at my in-laws. The kids enjoyed swimming at that time of day when the water is warmer than the ambient air. That was our Saturday and it was lovely.

Sunday was just as lovely. We packed a picnic and headed to Presque Isle State Park for the day. It was sunny and in the 80s. Perfect beach day. A friend from school met us there. I am officially the newest fan of spray on sunscreen.

This morning I was sad to see that Edinboro Lake was closed due to E. coli. I had plans with a friend and her two boys to spend today at that beach. It worked out great because it ended up a cloudy/rainy day. So we spent the morning picking 24 quarts of blueberries with some friends. We stopped at the store for a few things and came home to make blueberry pancakes for lunch, but unknown to us, Jared had finished all of our eggs yesterday morning. Having just returned from the store, I refused to go back out, but I'm pouting anyways:(
My parents returned from Maine yesterday, so it's lobster for dinner tonight!
