look closely
at the aged couple
who still hold hands in the park,
in a well worn knot,
knarled fingers with wedding band tan lines.
they can sit on that bench for hours,
and in fact, they have.
(a special curve in the seat from those times-a permenant memory)
following the fragments of the other's thoughts.
words are no longer a necessity.
they know each other inside and out
but that doesn't stop them from wanting
to see more-
how was your day?
what do you think about this?
the good times overshadowed by the bad
right now.
but they can still remember
the honeymoon bliss
that ignorance that comes from blindlove
-and yes, they think of it fondly--
it still manages to catch them unawares.
and still, those fingers!
muscle memory keeps their grip strong,
even when the mind has failed.
see-
there, that is love!
