The Watchmaker of Filagree Street
Characters: Akira Matsumoto, Grace Carrow
I hoped from the very beginning when Akira and Grace were introduced as friends that it would turn romantic, and now Grace and Akira are the ship of my dreams.
I feel there is much to explore with Akira as a character. He's very confident in his masculinity and his worth, which is very different from Grace, and I like how he subverts the "duke" (or in this case, Baron) romance trope. While I don't want issue fic, I don't mind the subtleties of how his experiences at Oxford, or in England in general, have shaped him popping up in his character or being addressed in some way. If you want to be more introspective I'd like to see how his relationship with Grace developed from friendship to almost love/affection, maybe from his perspective.
And Grace. My poor Grace. She is so unlikable, and yet...she is still intriguing. He's not an innocent victim in the schemes of the male characters, but actively participates in working against Keita, which gives her a depth that is very real and very complex. I like that she takes responsibility for herself and becomes vulnerable to Akira in a way she hasn't been before. I'd like to see how opening up to him changes her and their relationship. Angst is good.
It broke my heart when Grace says she was the child that couldn't see magic and how no child thinks they might be the one that doesn't see it. I feel that's worse than being the "special" one-not being special to anyone.
Possible Prompts:
Fic that picks up right after the end of the book would be a good place to start if you like. Do they go somewhere to talk or maybe share a kiss?
Or perhaps if they end up going to Japan. Does she get a chaperone or do they marry first?
It would be lovely to have some shippy fic and/or smut. If it's smut, I'd love to see what Akira learned in Paris from the ladies at the Moulin Rouge (lol). Grace is so uptight and she needs a lot of TLC. Particularly tenderness. I think that Akira would do his utmost to pleasure her.
Whatever you do with them, I'm okay with it. Just show them together exploring their relationship.
Devil's Cub - Georgette Heyer
Characters: Mary, Dominic
Devil's Cub has one of the more controversial of heroes of Heyer's novels, but I find Dominic adorable. He's an overgrown spoiled child who needs someone to take him in hand, and Mary is obviously the perfect one to do it.
I would love to see wedding night fic if you don't mind going smutty. I think eventually Mary would occasionally dominate him in bed, so if you want to explore light subdom, I'm all for that too.
If smut isn't your thing, I don't mind you just exploring their relationship in whatever way you want. Domestic fluff is good.
Behold Here's Poison - Georgette Heyer
Characters: Randall and Stella
Oh, how I love Randall. He's snarky, mean, and still totally in love with Stella, whose clothes don't come up to the mark, nor does her intelligence.
I'd love smutty fic. He's got lovely hands and I can imagine how much he might worship her with them. Or perhaps she surprises him. Anyways, bed dynamics would be interesting with these two.
Or I'd love to see a fic where Stella surprises Randall with her intelligence. Perhaps in someway she outsmarts him, and he has to eat humble pie. Instropection into how Randall fell in love with Stella would be interesting, as it isn't obvious. Heyer tends to surprise us with that kind of thing, and it would be nice to see a modern take on how their romance develops.
Lord Peter Wimsey - Dorothy L Sayers
Characters: Harriet, Peter
I've only recently got into the Wimsey books, so I'm by no means an expert or a purist.
I love the romance between Harriet and Peter. How he fell for her immediately, but how long it took her to return the his love, oof. So much angst.
If you want to write sexy times, Peter claims he's an excellent lover, so I think he should have to prove it. I'd love to see first time fic (is it before the wedding or the wedding night?). If smut isn't your thing, an adventure would be good, or if you want to write domestic fluff, I would love that as well.
Things I Like:
I really like romantic porn/smut.
-First times, especially if its unique i.e in a carriage, awkward but cute fumbling, etc.
-Male characters who have never had sex before but are not incompetent lovers (maybe they need a few tries...)
-Female body worship, scars, fetishizing of a certain body part like the ears or neck, finger, etc.
-Semi-public sex, sex in places other than a bed - in nature, in a car, in water, against wall, on couches, on kitchen counters, etc.
-Sexual positions other than missionary (especially from behind with body worship).
-Seduction by the woman.
-Aphrodisiacs, or stimulation.
-Light bondage
-Sensory deprivation.
I guess you could say I like vanilla with lots of toppings. I'm not against more intense kinks like some light subdom, but nothing intense. See DNWs below.
Non-sexual tropes I like:
-Enforced proximity, fake-dating, bed-sharing, falling asleep on the other's shoulder, dreams, witnessing nightmares, etc.
-Affection, accidental touching and reactions
-Introspection to characters own reactions
-Undercover work/casefic.
-Unrequited Love that Eventually Gets Requited. (I love the angst and tension of these kinds of fics.)
-Humorous hijinks, especially if it leads to my otp realizing how they feel about each other.
-Character introspection
-Angst with a happy ending.
Things I Don’t Like:
-Major character death.
-When writers use phrases like, “said, the redheaded beauty.” I really hate it. I like pronouns.
-When my ships sink before they have sailed. Gen is acceptable.
DNWs: Non-con/rape, subdom lifestyle, domestic abuse, underage, fisting, watersports, scat-play, necrophilia, bestiality, or role-playing, mpreg, tentacles, body horror, omegaverse, or daddydom.
I hope there is enough information here for you. I prefer smut and/or romantic fic, but I totally understand if that's not something you feel you can do. Basically if my ships are pre-sail, I'm ok with that.
