Silly fluff . . .

Well, when I was assembling my new chair, shirebound said I ought to write a story in which Bilbo or someone else had difficulties putting something together. And then baranduin said she thought that would be amusing, but would like to see Aragorn try it ( Read more... )

It is a child’s swing---how difficult can it be?

Famous last words with a vengeance!

I'm telling you, this story has a theme that can be understood by any and all, that is anyone who's ever tried to put anything together before (as I sit here tapping away on my laptop which rests on top of my spiffy rolling desk, which let me tell you required a bit of rejiggering to get it to set right).

And you had Faramir in there as well. That's mighty generous of you, if you don't mind my saying it. I've gotta say I really liked that little bit of wistfulness in the middle of the story when Faramir thinks of Frodo.

Loved Faramir's discretion in steering the King into putting the thing together properly --- and loved Aragorn thinking he knew how certain pieces were supposed to fit together and of course being dead wrong. Been there. Done that.

I wonder what Gimli said when Aragorn showed him the swing and the doorway :-)

Heh---yes, I think we can all relate... even with the right tools, I'm just... mercilessly bad at putting things together. Especially those pre-fab things where the holes are never lined up right.

Rejiggering... I like that word!

Well, I thought, who would be very patient and wise with something like this, and Faramir seemed to come to mind. Plus, I'm carrying my theme of Faramir having feelings for Frodo through any of these vignettes in which Faramir makes an appearance. Don't know why I enjoy doing that to the poor man so much. :)

Glad you enjoyed, Lora---let's HOPE Gimli had access to good stone tools, and quick . . .

Who'd a thought you'd have such a cruel streak toward poor bewitched Faramir? Tsk tsk. Not that I'd want you to stop, you understand. Sort of like when I put in bits with Aragorn into my F/F stuff :-)

And oh, I love your Aragorn bits, too (still fondly recalls the king threatening to break Faramir in COTWT if he hurts Frodo...)

Oh how sweet and funny. Those men of Dale sure sound a lot like the ancestors of the people who build do-it-yourself furniture today.

Loved the relationship between Aragorn and Faramir. And how present Frodo was even when he wasn't there.

I think that room is going to become the nursery/playroom for the royal heir...

Loved it, Lily. Thanks so much.

I think that room will have to end up being the playroom, LOL... if Frodo moves in with Aragorn, that is!

Glad you enjoyed---this may be the first story I've ever written without Frodo actually in it!

This is hilarious. At least Aragorn was spared one problem...no shrink wrap. I swear that the person who invented shrink wrap will be first before my firing squad come the revolution.

Thanks, Elwen! And shrinkwrap---arrrrgh. I work for a book publisher, in which EVERY volume comes... shrinkwrapped.

The bane of my existence when we go to shows!

This is great. I was groaning in sympathy over pieces put on backwards and incomprehensible instructions. Somehow it's never so humorous when I try to assemble something. :) And you throw little heart-tugs in amidst the humor, like Frodo gazing wistfully at Aragorn, and Faramir thinking wistfully of Frodo.

Aragorn, this will fit through that doorway yonder, will it not? If I ever sell this house, the computer desk stays with it, because I don't know any dwarves who could help me get it out of the bedroom where it was assembled. I forgot to measure the room before I ordered it...

I'm glad you liked the heart-tugs. And I've pity on you regarding your computer desk... oh dear.

I've pity on myself, too, as I'm wanting to order another computer desk, which means... assembly.

ARrrrrgh. :) Anyway, thanks so much... glad you liked it!
