Just hanging out today... still behind on comments. It seems I'm always to be behind despite my best intentions.
Just thought of that old song. I'm not sitting in a park though, now.

Some of you may remember me mentioning my next-door neighbors, who take care of their son who was in a car wreck in 2007 and suffered brain damage. They've been good friends to us these past few years.
Thursday morning we were sitting here in the office when we saw an ambulance go down the street with lights flashing, so of course we high-tailed it outside to see what was going on. And they brought my 67-year-old next-door neighbor Sharon, Chris's mom, out in a wheelchair and put her on a stretcher. She was conscious, it appeared---we were watching from our porch---and she didn't have oxygen on or anything. We knew she had heart issue and diabetes, so figured it was something due to that, but certainly hoped it wasn't serious.
Her husband, Rod, was apparently out of town, but a family friend was there. We didn't see Rod yesterday, but started getting a bad feeling when we noticed cars we didn't recognize parked at their house. And then this morning, we saw Rod and found out that she died that day.
Very shocking. We've been living next door to them for twenty-six years, and my brother and I have gotten to know them well since my dad passed away. I really liked Sharon... am very sad that she's gone and will miss her. She LOVED owls---more than any human I've ever seen. Rod and Sharon's house has over eight hundred owl items in it---statues, sculptures, dishes, salt-and-pepper shakers, artwork---you name it. When I saw her she was often wearing a shirt with an owl on the front.
And I feel so sorry for Rod. Now he has Chris to care for by himself. He has a physical therapist/nurse to help out on weekdays, but I imagine it will be tough. Though maybe having Chris there to care for will help distract him from the grief. I imagine he'll have to retire now, too. He's a petroleum engineer.
Anyway, that's been a bummer today. But other than that, this week has been pretty good and financially, things seem to be looking up a little maybe. And I haven't been following the Olympics well at all, darn it! I meant to watch the women's figure skating but my brother had a basketball game on TV that night and I just didn't. I don't have cable upstairs---I got rid of it and instead have a Netflix account. I did watch the ice dancing and enjoyed that.
Today I'm milling around the house doing whatever---and spending time here. And tomorrow night I'm pumped because---Downton Abbey season finale! Woo-hoo! I could have rented it on Netflix and watched it already but I decided to wait and draw it out.
Despite our financial woes, I splurged and spent a teeny bit of money this week on the most GORGEOUS remnant of English linen ever to make throw pillows out of. It has huge roses on it. It's very girly. But I feel very English, having it. :)
That's all the news that's fit to print, I guess. Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday!
