Alright, well I think that that was a success. SO for the past 2 or 3 years the students at UVM have been trying to get "gender identity and/or expression" added to the university's non-discrimination clause. After ignoring our request for nearly 2 years, the president recently signed a documnet adding the aformentioned phrase to the clause as a footnote of "sex". Well word up we dont want to be a fucking footnote. So we protested and dressed up and stood around the table at the board of trustees meeting with gags around our mouths. After not letting us speak until the very end of the 2 hour meeting, we were allowed to read our statement. The members of the board of trustees diversity subcommision agreed to taking the initiative to educate themselves, either by attending tic, or another event we will put on for them. They also agreed to meet prior to the next board meeting to discuss this issue further, in order that it can be properly presented at to the entire board during the may meeting. This is a great start, I just hope that we do not trust this committee too much, because I would not want to see our actions being silenced again.
Now its time to write my thesis for a bit. Just thought I would share...what do you think...sound good?
