(not) looking -OR- Semi-colons were made for cheating. (last line's lifted directly from the tale)

Not that she cared or anything, but it was Thai night and Sheldon wasn't home.

~

"I have come to realize that most relationships are merely a waste of time."

~

Leonard stopped by her apartment and asked if she wanted to play Halo; Sheldon wasn't home and they needed a fourth.

~

She didn't care; she was just a little concerned.

~

Autumn and auditions came and went; the world felt off-kilter and unfamiliar, without patterns.

~

The Pennyblossom twinkled innocently and suddenly Penny remembered.

~

"He already left; he had a grad student pick him up."

~

She wasn't looking for him, not really.

~

Penny backed away from the group of Howard clones; she didn't even want to know what a 'Shock 'n Bra' was, much less be a model for one.

~

"Aw, does Barbie need help?"

~

Leslie listened to Penny's explanations and laughed at her self-delusion.

~

The school's environmental controls were obviously still stuck on summer; air blasted from every vent and Penny shivered.

~

Black flakes of dry erase dust covered his fingers and the room was filled with white boards like fun house mirrors; she had found him at last.

~

Sheldon frowned and ordered her to leave.

~

Penny tried to coax him home; he remained unyielding.

~

She knocked over a white board in anger, but he merely righted it and kept working.

~

"Nothing is more important than the Nobel," he sneered.

~

Frustrated and out of options, Penny began to cry; Sheldon shifted uncomfortably.

~

"There, there."

~

His hand was cold, as was his cheek.

~

"Penny, what are you--"

~

She did not know why she was kissing him, until his shock thawed and he returned the kiss.

~

Penny cared, really, truly, completely.

~

Penny capped all the markers, took Sheldon's hand, and lead him away from the cold university and back home.

~

"Of course, I'm here, Leonard; it's Thai night."

~

Penny leaned against Sheldon's side and guided his arm around her.

~

There sat the two grown-up persons; grown-up, and yet children; children at least in heart; and it was summer-time; summer, glorious summer!
