Wish List

Nov 22, 2008 15:26

Step One

- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

(1) Blank postcards from around the world. Not only do I like these for myself, but I enjoy giving postcards to students as prizes when they do exceptionally well. Many, many postcards, please.

(2) The Cadfael books. I have the first two, but I would like the rest. E-book format, hard copy, anything. Even links to places online where I can buy ebooks of them, since I've not been able to find any other than the first two and last few.

(3) Links to amazing Podcast books.

(4) Fic! Original or otherwise. Well-crafted AUs or unexpected what-ifs are especially loved. What if Walowitz were gay? What if Susie had lived? Imagine if Harry Potter was steam-punk/early tech-punk mechanics instead of magic (building robots, trying to create an AI, arguing AC vs. DC electricity, etc). What if Atlantis had never regained contact with Earth ever? What if they hadn't gone back after the Ancients took over? What if all yokai were real? What if Nodame and Chiaki had met back in high school?

(5) Art. I would really, really love artwork of Japanese yokai. The Kuchisake-Onna (Split-mouth Woman), Yuki-Onna (Snow Woman), or any of them. There are a lot. Look up Mizuki Shigeru or just Yokai for inspiration.

(6) Easy, yummy, and healthy recipes that don't require a big stove (mine is slightly larger than your average microwave) or lots of counter space (I have a table).

(7) A microphone for my computer.

(8) Links to small presses online and online fantasy fiction journals.

(9) A beta for my NaNo.

(10) Your favorite song or a song that you think I will love.
