Also, I was watching CSPAN2 today because -- well, I was, anyway, and this man was on there talking about net neutrality (video available here), and. Am I crazy, or is he really hot, in that activist sort of way? Or, um, its possible I have a thing for the really geeky types. Possibly. Also, he possibly reminds me of the first guy I ever made out with which probably means he's an ass in real life, but, gosh. You could pretty much cut yourself on those cheekbones. Also, why are there no good pics of this guy online? Sure, I fangirl him for his brain and politics and speaking ability, but he's pretty, damnit, there should be pics.

nestra was updated this week for the first time in a while with over 200 new stories in multiple fandoms. There are some really good stories listed there, although you won't find any wincest if that's your thing.
phaballa's Story of the Boy Band which is basically a video-spam of boyband-y-ness. Oh, pop. I really think I am getting back into the whole popslash thing. There will never be bandslash, though, because *shudders* (although I said that about Harry Potter once upon a time, and you only have to look below to know I was mistaken).

This is another of those stories that I'm always calling epic - not in length, but in world building, idea and execution. This story is elegant - it is constructed with a sure hand, blocks and pieces of the story falling into place beautifully as it progresses, and everything coming together in the end. It is clean and shocking and ultrarealistic and scary and impeccable and it amazes me - I'm not a writer, but I still marvel at the pure artistry of this. If it were a painting I'd say it had clean lines - I'd call it gallery ready. This is a gallery ready piece.

Harry Potter
So, here's the thing about me and Harry Potter. I never liked the Harry Potter books - I thought they were pretty mediocre, storywise, and not particularly well written or engaging. I don't like the characters - Harry is too passive and everyone is too self righteous and the characters are more stereotype than substance. Maybe I read them at the wrong time in my life, or maybe I'm being to harsh, but really - I read the first four or five books and all I have to say about that is 'eh.' So I've never really had the inclination to read HP stories or get involved in HP fandom - even disregarding the constant wank and juvenile behaviour - BUT. I just read a really good HP story, so.
