The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary, Sunday, 12/18/05.

Herewith at this happy time of year, a few confessions from my beating heart: I have no freaking clue who Nick and Jessica are. I see them on the cover of People and Us constantly when I am buying my dog biscuits and kitty litter. I often ( Read more... )

It irritates me how it's thought necessary to have a God for humans to be humane. I'm not against a God, but I'm of the opinion that forced worship is tasteless advertisement of something which should be discovered of one's own accord, not through spoon-fed prayer or Bible-reading in school ( ... )

I'm doubting more and more that this was actually written by Ben Stein, because as I recall, Ben Stein wasn't wrong when it came to actual facts...
"Contrary to popular rumor, Dr. Spock's son did not commit suicide. Spock had two children: Michael, formerly the director of the Boston Children's Museum and since retired from the museum profession, and John, a construction general contractor, both of whom are still alive. However, Spock's grandson Peter did commit suicide on December 25, 1983 at the age of 22 by jumping from the roof of the Boston Children's Museum. He had long struggled with mental illness."

For a bit of a time reference, it had been 40 years since Dr. Spock was first published. Spock was also in his 80s at the time of his grandson's suicide, which tells me that he wasn't terribly involved in the child's rearing.

Check the facts yourself. Just thought I'd share.

Don't get me wrong. I don't necessarily agree with bringing Christian teachings into schools, nor am I a fan of organized religion. I just thought it made an interesting point about tolerance and the way society has changed.

Also, I didn't know that you read my livejournal.

I made my journal friends only a while ago without telling anyone because I was having some problems with a certain "friend" of mine and didn't want them to know. If you would care to read the rest of my entries, which are not nearly as scandalous as this just say the word.
