Well, I've finally gone out and claimed my girl...my dad and I went out on Saturday w/ our truk and trailer to haul her out of the seller's yard. Well, we soon discovered that his driveway was too narrow to get up and turn our truck around to get in position. So, we parked the truck near the end of the loooong ass, narrow, gravel driveway and came to the conclusion that Baby'd have to start for this to happen. We hiked up the drive armed w/ starting fluid, gasoline and lead for the gas tank....
Day 1: The Taking of Baby
So, we get up there and realize...her left rear tire is freakin' flat! Greeeeeaat...but at this point, my dad and I are still confident we can get her on the trailer...
We fill her up...start her up...run her for a minute...she's stuck in place on this guys lawn. Rock her into reverse, and she SHOOTS out of the rut and barrels down the driveway, a trail of white smoke in her wake...Success! Til we get to the bottom of the drive and discover that her left front tire blew out!
All right...at this point, we're a lil worried. I wasn't sure if she could get up on the trailer w/ TWO flats...especially on the same side. But hey, my dad and I are a special kind of crazy. What the hell right?
Waiting to go up...she's happy to be rescued I think.
See? She's smiling! :)
Success! High fives all around! Then we had to get the hell outta Dodge because our trailer lights weren't working. Luckily, Baby's batteries had enough juice to put on her flashers til we got to our destination. That's my good girl. :)
"Let's go! It's getting dark!"
Home at last....well, my cousin's place anyway. Waay closer to where she was and he practically has an autobody shop in his backyard. He's my very own Bobby. :)
Day 2: Cleaning
So, I went out to my cousin's place today to work on her...I wanted to get her cleaned out and washed so I could introduce her to my mom. :)
He had her off the trailer and sitting in a corner of the yard. He refilled her tires to get her off the trailer on Saturday...and they're still filled! I am so impressed...I thought those tires were shredded to bits!
Tinkering around in her engine...the 327 Powerglide Turbo is in amazingly good shape! She purrs like a big ANGRY KITTY!
The trunk lock after my cousin Randy got ahold of it. She didn't have a trunk key when I bought her so I had no idea what was inside...coulda been a dead body for all I knew! He jimmied her open w/ a screwdriver (I'm gonna replace it anyway). Let it never be said that delinquent activities never yielded any positive results. ;)
So, moment of truth...the lock is out, we go to pop it open...I'm expecting a raccoon to jump out or something...
But no! It's a treasure trove! That big gold bar is the front valance and then there's a grill! The exact parts that need to be fixed on the front! Hurray! I could practically hear the hallelujah chorus...
After the victory with the trunk, I drove her out into the yard so I could wash her up good and proper...she REALLY needed a bath...
Look at that! There's a car under there! Not just a car-shaped dust bunny. :)
She's a lot happier now...I can tell. :)
A quick shot of the dash and interior after I was done armor-alling the crap out of the leather. The interior is in AMAZING condition.
So....anyone want Shotgun?
So that's what's been done so far...it's a not a ton, but it's a start. :) I'm going back out on Thursday to work on her engine...I think w/ some carb cleaner, new oil and a few odds and ends, I can get her purring right.
