OH MY GOD, SOMEBODY FUCKING KILL ME
My brain hurts so much right now. I hate when people come into where I work and ask me to "fix" their paper.
Do you know why they ask me this? Because they can't write a fucking sentence to save their lives, and they need me to save them from getting a D or an F. (These are the same people that think a C is an awesome grade.)
For God's sake, some of these people can't even conjugate verbs !!
I sometimes say, "Do you see what's wrong with this sentence?"
Example: "He need to tells me where to go."
And this person just stares at me blankly as though they see nothing wrong with the sentence. I don't know how to help people like this. Verb conjugation is a process of memorizing a pattern; once they have the pattern, they can conjugate all other regular verbs. BUT THESE PEOPLE NEVER LEARNED THIS PATTERN! Why? I don't understand. How could they pass the exit exam or get into college if they don't know how to do this kind of thing? The part that bothers me the most is having to confront the idea that these people might actually get degrees , therefore making my BA worth much less.
Another kind of stupid I hate, is the socially uninformed stupid. I like to call it "The Red-White-and-Blue Stupids" because it often affects pretty much all Americans. It's the sense of stupid that one finds in someone who is completely ethnocentric or globally ignorant (often both). This girl I just talked to, for example, wrote a book review in which she referred to "the war". I asked her "which war are you talking about?" She looked at me as though I was the stupid one. When I asked her again, she finally said, "The war in Iraq." People like her think there is only one war happening right now, because that's the only one that pertains to America. This girl also thought that we were at war with Islam (as though every Muslim person lives in Iraq). She seemed to think that the people who attacked the Twin Towers were "Muslims". That was as far as she had thought. It's not like it was only because of their religion that they attacked us, and it's not like every Muslim feels the same way.
GODDAMMIT.
