Rapper/Producer John Forte Pardoned By George W. Bush The Fugees producer John Forte was among those pardoned yesterday by still-President George W. Bush. Forte, who also has two solo albums as a rapper, was busted back in 2000 for carrying two suitcases filled with over $1.4 million in liquid cocaine through Newark International Airport. He was convicted on intent to distribute charges and given the mandatory minimum 14 years in prison. That is, until W. pardoned him. Forte will be released on December 22nd, but will still spend the remaining of his sentence on probation. Among those who rallied for Forte’s early release were Carly Simon and her son Ben Taylor, who was reportedly best friends with Forte, as well as Senator Orrin Hatch. Forte is best known for producing two tracks on the Fugees’ The Score and appearing on Michael Jackson’s Blood on the Dance Floor.
There's just so much stuff going on here. Carly Simon's son is John Forte's best friend? Orrin Hatch advocated for his release? Is he really best known for producing two tracks on The Score?
If I were to put together a list of the things John Forte is best known for it would go like this:
1. Getting caught with over a million dollars worth of liquid cocaine
2. Dating Lauryn Hill
3. Jacking "99 Luftbalons"
Notice no mention of The Score or Michael Jackson.
Why - of all the people who are asking to bne pardoned, does GWB pardon John Forte? Does he have the first album? Is it because his album was named Poly Sci? Forte went to Columbia right? It's not a Skull and Bones thing.
My favorite Fugees song ever is still "Family Business" - partially due to Omega and Clef killing their verses, but primarily due to Forte dropping sweetness in his 12 bars. When I get home, I'm picking up The Score and bumping that track over and over.
