What a week/weekend for me. I had Thursday and Friday off from work so I can volunteer for the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach and Saturday and Sunday was just gonna chill there. I got home from work Wednesday/Thursday at 4am, went straight to bed for a few hours then woke up at 7:20am to get ready. I left my house at 7:55am and got to the beach at 9:13am(I was suppose to be there at 9am). The parking there was terrible, no place to park but I got lucky and found one close by. So, I went to the Surfrider booth where I was to volunteered and introduced myself to the girls there, very nice people. I only had to be there for four hours which was cool and I was allowed to walk around and check out stuff. The Us Open of Surfing is a happening place where it attacks 10,000 people each year. Pro surfers compete in heats, different booths advertising their products, etc. It was fun. I managed to get a few people to sign the petition for Surfrider, one was to band all plastic bags in HB and the other was to Save Trestles. The govenor wants to extend the 241 toll road towards a popular beach break and if they manage to do that it will affect a watershed that is not fully developed and the wildlife there and not to mention the surfers and the beach. Now the govenor said that it won't affect the beach nor wildlife but when has the govenor or anyone in politucs ever been true to their word. So with many signatures signed there is a big chance that we can stop the toll road. My sister in law Molly and Vanessa and her son Mateo came down at about 2pm and since I was done at 1pm I was able to chill with them. I had a great time being with them, cool chicks and Vanessas' son is such a cutie pie, very polite too. We went shopping on Main Street and saw my boss from the tanning salon Trevor yelling his heart out advertising for Etnies. So I went over to him and bugged him. He ended up giving Molly, Vanessa and I some sandals to give to our other hubbies.(Molly doesn't have a hubby so the sandals were for Ed) Thanks Trev, your awesome.
Friday, same thing....woke up early, did my time at Surfrider but on Firday, they were having the Surfers Hall of Fame. So I decided that it would be good to walk around and get some signatures for the petition to Save Trestles, this time I got a bunch of Pro Surfers to sign not to mention the pros that made it to the Hall of Fame. Congrats guys! I was sooooo happy that I got their signatures that I took a picture of it.
Saturday, Marco, Molly, Jacob (who she babysits) and I went to the US Open since Marco has never been and he thought it was cool. He video recorded the Motocross. Those motocross guys are very gutsy that if I had a bike I'd probably do the tricks too. When I was a kid, I've been known to do crazy tricks on my dirt bike. Molly and Jacob went to chill by the water while Marco and I walked around. It was pretty hot but at times there was a cool breeze. Then who do we see at a booth signing autographs? The famous Kala Alexander.(guy from the movie Blue Crush and pro Surfer) He is such a cool guy and gave me an autograph and I also took a picture with him. I was suppose to see him the next day(Sunday) but I ended up getting food poisoning which was the worst feeling for me. I was in bed all day Sunday, Monday and half of Tuesday but am feeling a little better.
It's Tuesday and my first day back at work. I feel somewhat better now. This morning we had an 5.8 earthquake. I was sleeping and all of a sudden shake rattle and roll. I don't get scared of earthquake in the day but if they happen in the middle of the night I freak out. I was actually surprised because usually I hear the wild birds chirpping like at 5am but I heard nada, it was totally quiet outside. What can I say, California was due for one.
